Globally, coffee prices on both the London and New York exchanges turned lower on December 18.
On the London exchange, Robusta prices for January 2025 delivery dropped by $ 14 (equivalent to 0.27%) to $ 5,216/ton. The March 2025 delivery contract fell by $ 35 (equivalent to 0.67%), settling at $ 5,168/ton.
On the New York exchange, Arabica prices for March 2025 delivery decreased slightly by 2.45 cents (equivalent to 0.75%) to 324.95 cents/lb. Meanwhile, the May 2025 delivery contract declined by 2.75 cents (equivalent to 0.85%), reaching 321.90 cents/lb.
Global coffee prices today have slightly declined on both the London and New York exchanges as the Fed enters its first day of meetings. A weaker Brazilian realtor has pushed traders to release stock to the market, causing Arabica prices to fall.
The global currency market is in a waiting phase, with all fluctuations being temporary until an official decision is announced by the Fed. Speculation on the exchanges is focused on the possibility of the Fed cutting interest rates during its December 18–19 meeting, with particular attention to projections for 2025.
Additionally, this week is packed with central bank meetings worldwide. Among major central banks, the Fed, the Bank of England (BOE), and the Bank of Japan (BOJ) are all expected to announce their final interest rate decisions for 2024.
Monetary policymakers in other economies across Southeast Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America are also forecasted to adjust interest rates during their meetings this week.
Thus, global coffee prices on December 18, 2024, have all slightly decreased compared to the previous day.
Domestic coffee prices today have slightly decreased by VND 400 compared to the previous day.
Specifically, in Lam Dong Province, the three districts of Di Linh, Bao Loc, and Lam Ha are all trading at VND 123,000/kg.
