On the morning of April 4, 2025, Robusta coffee prices on the London Exchange recorded mixed fluctuations. Specifically, the price of the May 2025 contract reached $ 5,371/ton, marking a slight increase of 0.09% ($ 5/ton) compared to the previous trading session. However, the July 2025 contract decreased by 0.22% ($ 12/ton), falling to $ 5,388/ton.
In contrast to Robusta, Arabica coffee prices on the New York Exchange continued to decline sharply. Specifically, the May 2025 contract fell by 0.93% (3.6 cents/pound), down to 385.25 cents/pound. The July 2025 contract also dropped by 0.95% (3.65 cents/pound), settling at 381.75 cents/pound.
Global coffee prices are under downward pressure due to retaliatory tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump. A 46% tariff on exports from Vietnam is expected to disrupt the flow of Robusta coffee and exacerbate the ongoing supply shortage. As the world's largest producer of Robusta coffee, Vietnam's trade restrictions are poised to have a significant impact on the global market.
