Coffee prices on April 1, 2025: Robusta coffee drops sharply

(VAN) Coffee prices on April 1, 2025, continue to fluctuate. Robusta and Arabica coffee prices on the London and New York exchanges dropped.

Coffee prices on April 1 globally

On April 1, 2025, coffee prices in the global market continued to show notable fluctuations. Specifically, Robusta coffee prices on the London exchange dropped sharply, while Arabica coffee prices on the New York exchange saw only a slight decline. These fluctuations reflect supply and demand conditions as well as the impact of weather and global trade policies.

Robusta coffee prices

On the London exchange, the May 2025 Robusta coffee contract closed at $ 5,269/ton, down 1.27% ($68/ton) from the previous session. The July 2025 contract also recorded a decrease of 1.1% ( $59/ton), settling at $ 5,295/ton.

Arabica coffee prices

Similarly, Arabica coffee prices on the New York exchange also recorded a slight decline. Specifically, the May 2025 contract decreased by 0.05% (0.2 US cents/lb), reaching 379.75 cents/lb. The July 2025 contract dropped by 0.27% (1 cent/lb), settling at 375.4 cents/lb.

Reasons for price fluctuations

  • Supply and demand: Robusta coffee prices are under downward pressure as freshly harvested supplies from Vietnam gradually enter the market, while Brazil is preparing for its new harvest.
  • Weather: Arabica coffee prices saw a slight decline as concerns over drought conditions in Brazil eased. The country's largest arabica-growing region, Minas Gerais, received 31.1 mm of rainfall in the week ending March 29, equivalent to 114% of the historical average.
  • Stockpiles: Arabica coffee inventories monitored by ICE fell to a five-week low of just 771,576 bags, which may limit the decline in prices.
