2,009 high-yield purebred Holstein Friesian dairy cows arrived at Nghi Son International Port (Thanh Hoa) on April 5, 2024, after more than a month of transit from the port of Olympia (Florida state, USA). Subsequently, the cows were transported to the TH farm situated in Yen My commune, Nong Cong district, Thanh Hoa. Beginning in June 2024, TH Yen My is anticipated to begin manufacturing its initial quantities of premium, fresh milk.
TH Yen My farm imports dairy cows directly from the United States, then assumes complete responsibility for adapting the cows to Vietnamese conditions prior to implementing the TH Group's signature closed-loop intensive farming process. By means of this importation, the TH Group facilitates the exponential growth of high-quality dairy cow in the province of Thanh Hoa.
Technical Director of TH Farm in Nghia Dan (Nghe An), Mr. Gilad Efrat, confirmed: "Our selection process for dairy cows is extremely stringent, considering factors such as breed, genetic bloodlines, pedigree, body condition, health, age, and gestation period... Numerous factors require verification. In addition, TH ensures the quality control of the heifers during their journey from the United States to the farm in Vietnam by adhering to regulatory requirements. To accomplish this, TH obtains adequate permits from state agencies, which encompass both veterinary law and environmental permits.
Nghi Son Port is approximately 40 km away from the TH farm in Yen My commune. The TH Group has determined that this distance is optimal in terms of transportation costs and aids in the speedy recovery and stabilization of the dairy cows following a long ocean voyage.
Presently pregnant, this batch of 2,009 purebred Holstein Friesian (HF) dairy cows imported to Vietnam from the United States has been meticulously selected. The HF cows exhibit a comparable milk yield to those raised on TH farms in Vietnam, averaging 11,000-12,000 liters per cow over a 305-day cycle, which equates to 36-40 liters of milk daily. The protein content exceeds 2.7%, while the fat content ranges from 3.6% to 3.8%. One notable genetic attribute of this cow breed is its low somatic cell count potential, which aids in the management of mastitis, a prevalent ailment among dairy cows that can have a profound impact on the quality of their milk.
According to Mr. Phan Van Thin, the Head of the Animal Health Inspection Department of Region 3, "The initial shipment of dairy cows imported from the United States to Thanh Hoa province was meticulously prepared quarantine isolation areas through a collaborative effort between the Department of Animal Health of Region 3 and the TH Group. This development significantly contributes to the advancement of the province's livestock sector, particularly in the realm of fresh milk production for the Vietnamese people."
Mr. Brandon Speech, CEO of Royal Atlantic Holdings (second from left), the dairy cow supplier to the TH Group, stated, "This is the ninth shipment of dairy cows that we have completed for TH in the six years that we have been working together. We consistently verify that imported purebred dairy cows from the United States possess superior gene pools and the greatest genetic indices. Recent years have demonstrated that subsequent generations of purebred HF dairy cows in Vietnam are flourishing, maturing, and adjusting exceptionally well.
In the past, TH farms in Vietnam, including Phu Yen, Lam Dong, Thanh Hoa, and others, obtained fully acclimated dairy cows from the Concentrated Dairy Farm Cluster in Nghia Dan district, Nghe An province, which utilized cutting-edge technology and the most extensive closed-loop production process of any TH farm worldwide. This farm cluster's proactive approach, which includes isolation, selection, reception, and innovative farming, exemplifies the perfection of TH's internationally renowned dairy farming process. The Nghia Dan model is completely replicable in other regions and countries.
In order to provide housing for the 2,009 high-yield purebred HF dairy cows, TH Yen My expanded the facility by constructing seven additional advanced buildings encircling a 2 km perimeter. In adherence to international regulations, all facilities have undergone comprehensive cleaning and disinfection, are enclosed by 2.5-meter-tall barriers, and are outfitted with cutting-edge technologies to ensure readiness for a quarantine period of 45 days and guarantee disease prevention. In advance of this bovine reception, TH engaged in a collaborative effort with local authorities in 56 buffer zone communes situated within a 5 km radius of the farm. The objective was to vaccinate and conduct tests for infectious diseases on all livestock.
The dairy heifers will receive care and attention in accordance with the most sophisticated and optimized technological procedures: Veterinary work to protect the health of the cows from New Zealand; Feed processing management procedures and nutrition for various types of cattle in accordance with Israeli processes; Water treatment processes and equipment in accordance with modern German technology; Waste treatment processes and equipment in accordance with advanced Koastal-Singapore technology; Livestock farming and management, including barns, in accordance with Israeli technology.
In June 2024, TH Yen My is anticipated to begin manufacturing its initial quantities of premium fresh milk. The most advanced and expansive milking system in Vietnam, which was constructed in Yen My and is the greatest investment of the TH Group, can simultaneously milk up to eighty cows. This labor-saving and cost-effective milking system extracts milk from more than 3,000 cows in just six hours.
The TH Group has allocated a total of 3.8 trillion VND towards the Thanh Hoa High-tech Dairy Farming and Milk Processing Project, which aims to establish a scale of 20,000 dairy cows. A substantial portion of the project area, approximately 165 hectares, is designated for the construction of farms and critical infrastructure, including hospitals for dairy cows, feed processing plants, pure water and wastewater treatment facilities, and milking centers. 735 hectares of the land are actively managed as raw verdant feed materials.
TH Group intends to establish feed material areas (corn, grass) for dairy animals in collaboration with local residents, in addition to the farm area, to replace inefficient agricultural land. The dairy farming project initiated by TH is providing tens of thousands of laborers in the project area with direct and indirect employment.
This is the first time TH has imported dairy cows directly to a farm outside the Concentrated Dairy Farm Cluster in Nghia Dan, Nghe An, utilizing cutting-edge technology and the largest closed-loop production process globally.
Founded in 2009 with the intention of establishing a precedent In contrast to other milk business entities that import powdered milk for reconstitution, TH Group pursued community health and genuine happiness by importing technology for grass cultivation, cattle farming, and milk processing in order to produce the highest quality natural milk under the TH true MILK brand. The product has won a Vietnam Quality Gold Award, National Brand status for multiple consecutive years, and a multitude of international accolades, including special awards in Dubai (United Arab Emirates), gold awards in the Russian Federation, and South Korea, among others.
