Self-control over dairy cow breeds, TH Group plays a big role in solving agriculture challenges

(VAN) 'Self-controlling over IVF embryo technology will help TH Group and the domestic dairy industry realize the dream of complete self-control over cow breeds,' said Dr. Hoang Kim Giao.

Dr. Hoang Kim Giao, Chairman of the Vietnam Large Cattle Breeding Association and former Director of the Department of Livestock Production (MARD), assessed, with the mastery of IVF technology for dairy cows, TH Group (owner of the TH True MILK brand) affirms its leading position in Vietnam's dairy farming industry, strongly contributing to realizing the sustainable development strategy of the agricultural sector.

TH Group has mastered IVF (in vitro fertilization) embryo technology for dairy cows.

TH Group has mastered IVF (in vitro fertilization) embryo technology for dairy cows.

Over the past decade, Vietnam's dairy farming industry has witnessed a strong breakthrough in both quality and quantity, especially since the participation of TH Group. Under the leadership of Labor Hero Thai Huong, TH has invested decisively and synchronously to apply the world's leading modern technologies in farming, dairy farming and milk processing, focusing on quality products with the criteria "Truly natural" and "For public health".

Not only stopping at pioneering the import of large quantities of purebred high-yield dairy herds from dairy "powerhouses", TH Group is also a pioneer in researching and applying technology to be autonomous in breeding dairy cows and achieve admirable achievements.

Mastering breeding technology is not only a good sign for the dairy farming sector in Vietnam but also an important step to help control the source of dairy cattle breeds and implement the strategy to develop the quantity and quality of dairy cows in the development strategy of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The target is 700,000 dairy cows and 2.6 million tons of raw fresh milk

The livestock development strategy for the 2021 - 2030 period and the vision 2030 approved by the Prime Minister clearly state the sustainable development goals of Vietnam's dairy industry. Accordingly, the herd will reach 700,000 cows, producing 2.6 million tons of fresh fresh milk by 2030.

With the appearance of a clean, fresh milk producer applying high technology in animal husbandry and processing, TH Group's industrialization and modernization of the dairy farming and milk processing industry in Vietnam is considered top in Southeast Asia. Many modern technical advances in cow herd management, animal husbandry, milk production, and processing have been heavily invested in by TH Group and brought to Vietnam, successfully applied in Vietnamese fields. With infrastructure and quality management processes according to international standards, TH has contributed to improving productivity and affirming the quality of Vietnam's clean, fresh milk products on the world dairy map.

However, not everyone knows that breed issues were once an obstacle for Vietnam's dairy farming industry. Before TH Group initiated and took the lead in investing in large-scale purebred dairy cattle farming, Vietnam had to import dairy cows mainly from Cuba, New Zealand, and Australia - many non-pure F1 and F2 hybrid dairy cows. strains result in low milk quality and yield, causing losses for farmers...

In 2009, when completing the construction of the first farm, TH took the lead in importing purebred HF (Holstein Friesian) high-yield dairy cows from New Zealand, later from the US and other countries with developed dairy farming. develop. With high technology and advanced, methodical and closed herd management and production processes "from green pastures to clean milk", TH's purebred HF cows from that time have achieved up to 100% milk yield with 9,000 liters/head/cycle. This productivity continues to be improved through improving the quality of breeding cows. Up to now, the average milk yield at the TH farm can reach nearly 11,000 liters/cow/cycle.

TH masters difficult technology and has complete autonomy in dairy cattle breeds

From late 2015 to early 2016, TH began to cooperate with partners from the US to import frozen embryos and transfer in vivo embryo production technology. This cooperation has opened new doors for rapidly increasing the performance of cows while still maintaining valuable genetic resources.

In 2019, TH continued to go one step further by choosing ABS - the world's leading company in dairy cow breeds and genetics, to transfer IVF technology to dairy cows. This not only affirms its pioneering position in Vietnam's dairy farming industry but also gives TH a great competitive advantage.

Since 2019, TH began receiving IVF technology transfer from ABS, the world's leading dairy cow breeds and genetics company.

Dr. Hoang Kim Giao commented that IVF embryo technology - considered "world wisdom" in this field- was applied in developed countries many years ago. Mastering IVF embryo technology will help TH and the domestic dairy industry realize the dream of autonomy in cow breeds.

In Vietnam, IVF in vitro fertilization for cattle has also been carried out by units such as research institutes and large universities, but it is only for research purposes. As for IVF, specifically in dairy cows and applied in practice, up to now, the only unit that has successfully implemented it on a large scale is TH Group - an enterprise that fully converges factors such as: Having a cluster of modern livestock farms, high technology; There is a herd of dairy cows approaching 70 thousand with individuals with good genetic potential; Synchronous and contemporary high-tech equipment; vast fields of raw materials,…

Enhance Vietnam's position on the world dairy map

In addition to productivity, dairy cows born from IVF embryos also can adapt well to hot and humid living conditions in Vietnam. TH's quality dairy herd also promotes Vietnam's dairy farming industry better thanks to higher milk yield, better milk quality, and good dairy breeds for farmers nationwide.

Previously, TH Group had imported 24 times of high-yield HF dairy cows from New Zealand and the US to Vietnam. Along with the success of the IVF project, TH will master the technology to produce a generation of purebred HF dairy cows with quality and milk yield that is as good as that of leading breeds in the US right in Vietnam.

With a plan to produce from 5,000 to 6,000 embryos/year in the first phase, TH plans to not only provide frozen embryos and breeding animals to its owned farms but also to domestic dairy farms and export to other countries.

Technical Director of veterinary medicine and cow health care, TH Dairy Foods Joint Stock Company - Mr. Gilad Efrat - shared that with the IVF project, TH Group expects the quality of dairy cows to be improved thanks to selecting eggs from the best cows in the herd. Genetically, that's a huge step toward success. Improving genetic issues thanks to the TH IVF project will effectively improve the quality of cow herds in Vietnam, enhancing Vietnam's position on the world dairy farming map.
