Kien Giang intensifies measures to prevent African Swine Fever

According to reports, as of October 2024, Kien Giang province had 11 African Swine Fever outbreaks, all within 21 days, in the districts of Hon Dat and U Minh Thuong. Meanwhile, several neighbouring provinces are also facing outbreaks, with incidents of pigs suspected of being infected or already sick being sold rapidly.

Small-scale farms are restocking and increasing their herds in anticipation of the end-of-year market demand, but many farms still face limitations in terms of facilities, hygiene conditions, and disease prevention skills. Many farmers are hesitant to vaccinate their pigs against African Swine Fever due to concerns over additional costs.
