According to the head of the livestock industry in Hau Giang, there are two important factors that influence the decision of farmers to increase their herds.
One is the market prices of input materials and the selling price of the products. The second is the situation of disease control in livestock populations. In recent months, live pig prices have been on the rise, and the price of pigs in Hau Giang is currently VND 60,000 – 62,000/kg. With the current input prices, the cost of purchasing piglets is nearly VND 2 million/pig, and the cost of industrial feed is about VND 3 million to raise a pig to 100 kg/pig.
Additionally, there are costs for building infrastructure, electricity, water, labor for care, veterinary services, and disease prevention. With current prices, farmers are making a profit of nearly VND 1 million/pig.
