Prime Minister Mark Rutte paid a two-day official visit to Vietnam (November 1 and November 2) at the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in the context that the two countries are celebrating the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations.
This is the third time Prime Minister Mark Rutte has officially visited Vietnam. Previously, Mark Rutte had two visits to Vietnam in June 2014 and April 2019. In particular, during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to the Netherlands in October last year, Prime Minister Mark Rutte affirmed: "The Netherlands is a European friend of Vietnam."
Therefore, accompanying Prime Minister Mark Rutte on this visit to Vietnam is a delegation of 23 companies and organizations in high technology and digitalization. These are areas where Dutch businesses have a lot of strength.
The Netherlands is Vietnam's second-largest trading partner in Europe and the European Union's (EU) largest investor in Vietnam. Bilateral trade exchange in 2022 reached US$ 11.09 billion, an increase of 32% compared to 2021. The Netherlands has about 400 investment projects in Vietnam, with a total capital of US$ 13.5 billion.
Among the hundreds of projects that Dutch businesses invest in Vietnam, the most notable are agricultural projects, typically a series of projects by De Heus, one of the world's leading agricultural corporations. These can be considered projects within the effort to build the Strategic Partnership for Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security between the two countries signed in 2014 during Prime Minister Mark Rutte's visit to Vietnam.
De Heus Group is one of the first Dutch agricultural investors present in Vietnam. In 2008, De Heus marked its presence by buying two factories in Binh Duong and Hai Phong. To date, De Heus has achieved impressive development with more than 20 factories and a transit warehouse system spanning across the North, Central, and South regions. De Heus is currently the largest enterprise in Vietnam in the animal feed business in terms of scale, output, and revenue.
During the investment process in Vietnam, De Heus paid attention to Hung Nhon Group through the joint venture DHN. This is considered the largest-scale joint venture in the agricultural sector in Vietnam today. One of the typical projects of this joint venture is the high-tech agricultural complex DHN has been building in the Central Highlands and Tay Ninh provinces.
The DHN joint venture aims to reach a capacity of about 10,000 pigs of the same breed in the Central Highlands region by 2030; 200,000 commercial sows in the Southeast, South Central, and Central Highlands regions; 58 million breeding chickens and 25 million broiler chickens in Tay Ninh.
Evaluating his partners in Vietnam, MKoen De Heus, Global General Director of De Heus, said: "Hung Nhon is a professional enterprise in the field of livestock farming in particular and agriculture in general. In particular, Hung Nhon's operating model is consistent with the plan to develop and expand business activities to become a companion of breeders and businesses in the livestock sector in Vietnam. De Heus wishes to cooperate with Hung Nhon to achieve these goals jointly."
According to Mr. Vu Manh Hung, Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of Hung Nhon Group, De Heus is the world's leading enterprise in the agricultural field with famous global brands such as De Heus, Windmill, and Koudijs. Therefore, collaborating with De Heus is an honor for Hung Nhon. "Cooperating with De Heus helps us receive much support for advanced Dutch livestock technology. From there, develop large-scale agricultural projects in Hung Nhon in the future," Vu Manh Hung shared.
From a local perspective, a place that receives DHN projects, Chairman of Tay Ninh Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Ngoc also has high appreciation for the DHN joint venture.
"The fact that DHN Joint Venture started the project within just one month of signing the investment cooperation minutes shows that Hung Nhon and De Heus are reputable and capable enterprises. With the presence of DHN, the livestock industry in the localities where this joint venture is present will have outstanding development in the future," Nguyen Thanh Ngoc hopes.
