Quang Tri implements measures to respond to natural disasters for the Summer-Autumn rice crop

According to the Quang Tri Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, there are currently over 21,000 ha of rice in the province that have reached the flowering, milky, and dough stages. While Hai Lang district is at the peak of its harvest and nearing completion, other areas have also begun their harvesting process.

However, there are still about 1,500 ha of rice that have not yet flowered, concentrated in Cam Lo district, Dong Ha City, Huong Hoa, and Dakrong. Forecasts indicate that there may be large-scale heavy rains in the near future. To proactively respond to these natural disasters and ensure a successful summer-autumn crop, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is working with localities to implement appropriate measures.

Ms. Nguyen Hong Phuong, Deputy Director of the Quang Tri Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, stated that the expected yield for this summer-autumn rice crop in Quang Tri is close to 6 tons per hectare. This is predicted to be the highest yield for a summer-autumn crop to date.

"The principle of the provincial agriculture sector is 'harvest green at home rather than late in the field.' The area of rice that has already flowered is expected to be harvested before August 30. For the areas of rice that have not yet flowered in Cam Lo, Gio Linh, and Dong Ha, the provincial agriculture sector is guiding farmers on care and pest control measures to ensure the rice flowers sooner. This area is expected to be harvested before September 5", Ms Phuong said.
