At the "Consultation session on exporting dragon fruit to Australia and New Zealand" organized recently by the Trade Promotion Agency (Ministry of Industry and Trade), Mr. Nguyen Van Trung, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam in New Zealand, stated that at present, there have been 3 types of fresh fruit from Vietnam that are allowed to be imported into New Zealand, including mango, dragon fruit and rambutan.
In particular, dragon fruit is the most successful fruit exported to New Zealand, with impressive growth in turnover since 2014.
Also according to Ambassador Nguyen Van Trung, New Zealand's Ministres are completing all procedures so that Vietnamese green lemons and pomelos will soon be available in this country's market, which is expected to be in 2022. Consequently, Vietnamese lemons and pomelos are facing the opportunity to penetrate this potential market.
Over the recent years, economic and trade relations between Vietnam and New Zealand have developed stably. Of which, agricultural cooperation and agro-product trade, including opening the market for fresh fruits, are the fields of particular focus for the two sides.
Also in the Consultation session mentioned above, representatives of some major distributors in New Zealand highly appreciated Vietnamese dragon fruit and hoped to import more fresh fruits from Vietnam.
