However, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), the pangasius breed prices must be VND 40,000-50,000 per kilogram, so pangasius breed producers are profitable.
The price of raw pangasius has dropped to VND 20,500-21,500 per kilogram. Meanwhile, the average cost of production is about VND 22,500 per kilogram, so farmers have no profit.
According to VASEP, the pangasius import demand from the US, Brazil, Mexico, Thailand, Canada, Colombia, Russia, and UAE has increased positively. However, the Covid-19 epidemic has spread from Ho Chi Minh City to the western provinces in the past time, causing export processing enterprises to be seriously affected.
Therefore, the export market will only recover when pangasius processing enterprises restore production and increase capacity as normal. At that time, the raw pangasius prices may increase.
