According to the statistics from the Korea Customs Service, Korea’s mango imports in the first 10 months of 2020 reached 15,400 tons, valued at US$ 57 million, down 6.8% in volume and 6.4% in value over the same period in 2019.
Notably, in 2020, Korea strongly increased the importation of Vietnamese mangoes. To be specific, during the 10 months of 2020, Vietnamese mangoes imported into Korea reached 952 tons, valued at US$ 3.3 million, up 64.3% in volume and 68% in value over the same period in 2019.
With the volume and value as mentioned, Vietnam is the fourth biggest mango supplier, accounting for 6.2% of Korea’s total mango import volume.
Apart from Vietnam, Korea also increases mango importation from other markets such as Taiwan, Brazil, Australia, Cambodia and China.
Among the markets supplying mangoes to Korea, Thailand is still the main supplier of this product, but the volume and value of imports from Thailand had plummeted in the first 10 months of 2020, reaching 7.9 thousand tons, worth US$ 25.8 million, down 18.7% in volume and 22.5% in value over the same period in 2019. The proportion of imports from Thailand accounted for 51.1% of the total import volume.
