According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), up until the middle of November 2021, Vietnam’s Bivalvia export to the EU reached $73.7 million, increasing 38,5% over the same session last year.
Italy, Spain and Portugal are currently among the largest single markets importing Vietnam’s Bivalvia in the EU bloc.
Of which, Italy is the largest single market in the bloc, accounting for 30% of the total exports of Vietnam’s Bivalvia to the EU, worth more than $22 million, up 49%. Bivalvia products that are mainly exported to Italy include frozen whole brown clams, frozen boiled brown clams, frozen boiled white clams, frozen steamed meat clams, frozen and cleanly processed clams…
Next up is Spain’s market with an export value of $21.3 million, up 42% and export to Portugal reached $17.5 million, up 37% over the same session last year.
The main products exported to these markets are frozen and steamed brown and frozen clams. The average export price to Italy varies between $2.35-$2.69/kg, while the average export price to Spain and Portugal varies between $1.7-$2/kg.
France is currently the largest single market importing Bivalvia in the EU region and the sixth-largest importer of Vietnam’s Bivalvia. Import of Bivalvia into France from Vietnam up to November 15, 2021, recorded the best growth rate at 191%.
According to the International Trade Centre (ITC), the EU’s Bivalvia import in the first 9 months of this year reached over $1 billion, increasing 1% over the same session last year. Chile, the Netherlands, France are the 3 largest suppliers of Bivalvia for the EU. Vietnam is the seventh-largest supplier of this product for the EU.
The increasing demand of markets and stable production of clams are elements aiding Vietnam’s Bivalvia export to the EU. Tax incentives from the EVFTA Agreement also partially help push the export of Vietnam’s Bivalvia to the EU.
VASEP shared that, for being a convenient, easy to use the product, in the context of the pandemic forcing people to stay indoors, demand for Bivalvia canned products in EU retail segments also increased during the Covid-19 pandemic’s resurgence. The EU’s import demand for these products will stay high in the upcoming time.
