According to the Vietnamese Trade Affair in Australia, in Jan-Apr, frozen ginger export from Vietnam to Australia increased by 1,350% year-on-year, reaching over USD 348,000.
Currently, Vietnam’s frozen ginger is not only sold in supermarkets, stores but also on online platforms. The price of Vietnam’s frozen ginger in Australia ranges from AUD 9 to AUD 13 per kilogram (around VND 153,000- 221,000). The ginger is packaged in half a kilo or 1kg packs serving mainly for restaurants. Therefore, the Trade Office is asking export enterprises to pack a smaller package of about 250 grams to serve the consumption needs of families.
Via market supervision from January, the agent realized that the price of fresh ginger in Australia sometimes reached AUD 50 per kilogram (around VND 850,000). In particular, the Australian market is strengthening ginger imports. It is forecasted that the ginger import turnover in Australia may attain over VND 100 billion.
Previously, Vietnamese frozen ginger exported to Australia with insignificant volume and did not draw the attention of consumers. Meanwhile, the Australian market yet to open for Vietnamese ginger. However, the Trade Office acknowledges that Vietnam's frozen aged ginger retains its flavor and is fully capable of conquering the market.
To diversify agricultural goods and seek opportunities for export development, the Vietnam Trade Office in Australia has researched and implemented a program to build brands and promote the consumption of agricultural products and spices in this market.
Accordingly, the communication activities were deployed to series of stores, supermarkets, and especially chained-system restaurants with the message of Vietnamese frozen ginger - Special taste, affordable price. In addition, to attract attention and enhance the value of the Vietnamese ginger brand, the Trade Office asked the Organizing Committee of the Community Golf Tournament at Parramatta to agree to advertise Vietnamese ginger at the Hole-in-one hole with a prize of value AUD 10,000 (about VND 170 million- The prize is sponsored by the Organizing Committee; The deal is free of charge).
The golf tournament took place in the largest hub of Vietnamese people in Australia, featuring several businessmen, especially in the field of cuisine so that the spread of Vietnam’s ginger brand was huge.
