Accordingly, the award announcement ceremony took place today (November 15) in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. After evaluating more than 260 registration documents from 60 countries, UN Tourism recognized the rich and outstanding cultural and natural resources of Tra Que Vegetable Village, along with the village's commitments and actions to comply with the three main pillars of sustainable tourism development.

UN Tourism's "Best Tourism Village" award was launched to enhance the role of tourism in protecting rural villages, including landscapes, systems of knowledge, biodiversity and culture, and local agricultural, forestry, livestock, fisheries, and culinary activities.

Villages selected to receive the award must have outstanding natural and cultural resources, innovative actions, and a commitment to tourism development in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.

UN Tourism will present this award to Quang Nam province at the Second Annual Meeting of the Best Tourism Villages Network of UN Tourism within the framework of the "International Conference on Rural Tourism" held in Quang Nam on December 7-12, 2024. The award ceremony will have the participation and witness of Government leaders, the Deputy Secretary General of UN Tourism, and leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

"Tra Que Vegetable Village was honored as recognition for the efforts of Quang Nam province's tourism industry, Hoi An City government, and the community participating in activities at Tra Que Vegetable Village in preserving and promoting the identity and value of traditional craft villages in tourism development, especially the community element. This recognition will contribute to honoring the value, spreading the brand, and promoting Hoi An tourism to more international tourists," said Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hong.

Tra Que Vegetable Village is about 3 km northeast of Hoi An ancient town and was formed in the 16th century. This place has a mild climate and lush soil, creating favorable conditions for people here to innovate and develop the long-standing organic vegetable growing profession.

Tra Que village, with an area of about 18 hectares, currently has more than 200 households participating in vegetable growing activities with over 320 direct workers. Previously, in April 2022, the vegetable growing profession in Tra Que was recognized and included in the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage under the category of folk knowledge and traditional crafts by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
