At the moment, in many communes of Dai Loc District (Quang Nam Province) such as Dai Hong, Dai Lanh, or Dai Son ..., we can see the farmers working hard in the pineapple fields. Now is the high season of harvesting pineapples, so from the early morning, many households arrive at their fields to cut the golden ripe pineapples to sell to traders.

According to pineapple farmers in Dai Loc District, pineapple trees have been essential in their life for decades, especially in the mountainous communes. The reason is because the topography here is very suitable for this plant. They often cultivate pineapples on the hillside. Although the land is quite arid, the pineapple tree has a very strong vitality and can withstand drought, so only a little extra care is required for high yields.

Dai Son Commune is the largest pineapple growing area of Dai Loc District with an area of about 700ha. In this harvesting season, the people in the commune are all very happy that their pineapple fields are highly productive. Not only the pineapple is in good season, but its price is also profitable. Many families earn tens to hundreds of million dongs this season.

Having been in the business for nearly 30 years, cultivating pineapples, Ms.Ta Thi Thuy, a resident of Hoi Khau Village, Dai Son Commune, has never witnessed such a high yield as the one this year. In September, 2019, Ms. Thuy's family spent VND 40 million to invest in 2ha production with about 13,000 pineapple roots. Up to now, this entire area has given fruit and ready for harvest.

"My pineapple fields this year are giving fruit in big sizes, weighing from 1 to 1.2 kg. Traders are buying them from fields at the price ranging from VND 8,000 to 10,000 per kilogram, nearly 2 times higher than previous years. So, although it is now only the beginning of the harvesting season, not only have I got capital back, but also have also made profits”, Ms.Thuy excitedly shared.

Having just harvested the family's 15,000 roots, Ms.Nguyen Thi Bi, a resident of Dau Go Village, Dai Son Commune shared, the weather of this season has actually not favorable. At some points, the temperature reached nearly 40 degrees, but thanks to the plant's high tolerance of drought, together with the dedication of the farmers, the productivity could still be that high. Ms.Bi calculated that after subtracting all expenses, she has gained more than VND 100 millions of interest.

For many years, pineapple has been considered as the main agricultural product of Dai Loc District such that this has become its own brand. Referring to Dai Loc fruit, many people will immediately think of their delicious and nutritious pineapples. During the pineapple season, dozens of traders from different places have come to the field to buy pineapples every day.

Ms.Dang Thi Thu Hien (52 years old), a pineapple trader, said that the reason why Dai Loc pineapple is so popular with many customers is because it ripens on the field by itself. There is no need for the assistance of chemicals, so the fruit is safe and has natural aroma and quality. “Three days ago, I purchased more than 10 tons of pineapples in Dai Loc District and transferred them to the South for customers. Now they are nearly sold out and retailers are ordering more. That is why today I have come here again for purchase.”, Ms. Hien said.

It is known that, in order to avoid risks, in recent years, the people of Dai Loc District have practiced farming in the form of spreading crops. As a result, this local pineapple season is not harvested massively once, but to avoid stagnation, continuing until the end of the summer. In addition to selling to traders for consumption in other localities, Dai Loc pineapple products are also sold at retail in the localities within the province, bringing relatively economic efficiency to many households.
