Eliminating stinky odors with organic carbonHa Tinh dairy farm is a branch of Vietnam Dairy Cow One Member Limited Company (VINACOW), whose task is to raise dairy cows to meet the supply of high quality fresh milk for the Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company's (Vinamilk) processing plants.
In recent years, this farm has been one of the leading enterprises of cattle farms in Ha Tinh in terms of breeding processes, environmental protection and disease prevention. As for the responsibility for environmental protection, this is a very sensitive issue that has attracted special attention from state management agencies and people in the projected area.
To minimize pollution in production, Vinamilk Ha Tinh has invested in an automatic fecal and urine scraping system. Solid waste and liquid waste are separated.
The solid waste is composted for re-use in growing grass while the liquid waste is treated by a biogas system. Quarterly, the farm contracts with Ha Tinh Environmental Monitoring Center to monitor environmental indicators once, and send notices to local functional units and authorities.
According to Mr. Dau Phi Tu, Director of Vinamilk Ha Tinh farm, after being granted a certificate for livestock raising, the farm has joined with other Vinamilk's dairy farms across the country to improve the efficiency of environmental protection in and around by applying apply Organic Carbon technology in solving odors in cattle raising to reduce insects, flies and mosquitoes that may affect the environment.
“In 2019, Vinamilk started to pilot this technology and found it effective in handling odors, cleaning the environment, and limiting flies and mosquitoes. Vinamilk quickly has deployed and applied it widely to all its dairy farms both in the country and abroad,” said a Vinamilk leader.
He further informed that the spraying of deodorizers using Organic Carbon is carried out periodically not only in the barn premises, but also for the entire farm such as playgrounds for cows, landscape areas, canteen, office,...
Organic carbon will eliminate odors and make the air environment fresh. Therefore, now the problem of odor in the air at the farm is almost completely treated, the space of the farms has thousands of cows but is always green, clean and pleasant.
In particular, these are organic products, so they can be added to the spraying system for cows, helping the odor from livestock to be completely treated, the skin and hair of cows are healthy, contributing to enhancing the immune system and disease resistance for livestocks.
After 9 years of operation, Vinamilk Ha Tinh farm currently raises nearly 2,000 dairy cows under a high quality closed process. Each cow is recognized by ear code, identification chip and heat alarm chip.
All conditions of cows such as health status, estrus, reproduction and milk quality are recorded and transmitted directly to the herd control center everyday through the antenna system installed in the barns and sensor equipment on the milking rig.
With this specialized software, workers can monitor and check their health status and disease history from birth to the present time. The installed software system automatically makes a list of vaccinated cows, alerts to check the health status of cows with reduced rumination, reduced movement, increased electrical conductivity in milk, etc.
Mr. Dau Phi Tu, the farm manager, said the application of animal husbandry processes that are disease-free and protect the environment has helped both increase production efficiency and milk quality while limiting negative impacts on the environment and lives of people in the projected area.
Currently, Vinamilk Ha Tinh not only applies organic carbon technology to environmental treatment but also uses a system of separating and pressing cow manure for biogas to heat milk for calves. This helps save fuel and eliminate odors without affecting the environment. The manure can also be used as fertilizer for corn and grass.
In weather conditions of tropical monsoon, temperature and humidity at the barn greatly affect the health and milk production of cows. Therefore, cooling work is always concerned and gets special care to create a microclimate in the cool barn to meet the requirements in minimizing the impact of stress on dairy cows.
In addition, self-contained automatic milking systems (including the automatic milking system of 64 cows/time, the self-contained sanitation system and the milk pasteurization vehicle) have been digitized, automatically recorded and transmitted data to the central room, serving professional work and management more effectively.
As for the quality management system, VINACOW started to apply the quality management system ISO 9001: 2008 at the farms at the end of 2012 and the beginning of 2013. In Ha Tinh, it applied as soon as the farm came into operation at the end of 2014.
The application of the ISO 9001:2008 standard with the upgrading of a version to ISO 9001: 2015 helps the industrial-scale dairy farm to better control the quality of input materials. All activities of raising, caring, exploiting and preserving milk follow clear procedures, standards and work instructions. All employees are trained before undertaking the job.
“Strict control and management along with an improved staff capacity create a premise for more stable output. At the same time, this helps reduce production costs by reducing defective products in the first place and increase profits thanks to the effective application of production processes,” emphasized Mr. Tu.
At the same time, since 2015, Vinamilk Ha Tinh has also successfully developed livestock production according to GlobalG.A.P. This is a set of standards with strict requirements that are built towards the interests of consumers to be able to use safe agricultural products.
Assessing the disease-safe livestock production and environmental protection of Vinamilk Ha Tinh, Mr. Tran Hung, Head of Ha Tinh Sub-Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine said: “Vinamilk Ha Tinh is the first unit that has been granted certificates for livestock production and disease safety in accordance with the Law on Animal Husbandry and the Law on Veterinary Medicine. This unit cooperates very closely and effectively with specialized agencies and local authorities in the vicinity of the farm in preventing infectious livestock diseases and protecting the environment.
According to Mr. Hung, thanks to the application of a closed breeding process and the introduction of digital technology into management from food, drinking water, reproduction, milk quality to disease indicators and indicators, livestock production is more efficient. There have not been any comments from people complaining about the bad smell or the quality of the wastewater. In particular, Vinamilk Ha Tinh is an enterprise that actively supports vaccines for local farmers around the farm area, pioneering vaccination for livestock when the outbreaks of foot-and-mouth and dermatitis diseases occured.
