Forest rangers in Na Hang and Lam Binh districts regularly patrol and protect Nghien ancient trees thousands of years old, located in pristine, majestic forests.
Na Hang - Lam Binh Nature Reserve has a protected area of more than 40,000 hectares, located in 14 communes and towns in Na Hang and Lam Binh districts of Tuyen Quang province. The reserve is a vast forest along the banks of the Gam and Nang rivers. This place has a diverse ecosystem with many rare species of animals and plants, and a unique and interesting cave system.
There are Nghien ancient trees thousands of years old here, considered treasures of the reserve and always strictly protected.
To protect ancient forests, rangers from Na Hang and Lam Binh districts regularly patrol and protect forests in the mountains and in the Tuyen Quang hydroelectric lake bed area. On average, each forest ranger here is responsible for managing and protecting thousands of hectares of special-use and protective forests.
The Nghien tree lives on rocky mountains so it grows very slowly. It is classified as precious wood in group 2A. Its wood has high hardness and good water resistance. In Na Hang district alone, the ranger force of the Na Hang Ranger District has more than 100 rangers and forest patrol staff spread evenly at 8 ranger stations and 25 forest protection posts to patrol and strictly control. .
The ancient Nghien tree is thousands of years old in the Na Hang - Lam Binh nature reserve. The root is so big that a dozen people can't hug it all. The tree's roots weave throughout a large forest area.
Bac Vang Forest Ranger Station is located on the Tuyen Quang hydroelectric lake bed area to perform the management and protection of forests. There is no national electricity grid, no phone signal and no villages, only forest rangers with vast forests and lakes.
Because it is not near the market or near people's houses, the rangers and forest patrol staff of the Na Hang Ranger District actively raise fish and grow vegetables to improve their daily meals.
One of these two thousand-year-old Nghien trees in the special-use forest in Ban Bung village, Thanh Tuong commune, Na Hang district, Tuyen Quang province has just been recognized as a Vietnamese Heritage treein March 2024.
