Rasing shrimp as carefully as raising a child

At the beginning of October 2015, the high-quality shrimp production complex of Viet Uc Phu My Co., Ltd. (a unit of Viet Uc Group) started construction in My Thanh commune (Phu My district, Binh Dinh).

Up to now, the company implemented construction and completion of many items at the complex with an area of 116 hectares located in the Hi-tech Agricultural Park planned by including Ten shrimp farms type I; Four shrimp ponds type II with an area of 1,600m2 per pond, and two nursery ponds with an area of 162m2/pond; two main wastewater treatment zones with a capacity of 9,000 m3/site/day and night. Currently, Viet Uc Phu My Co., Ltd. is producing 10 shrimp farms type I and 29 shrimp farms type II applying Biofloc shrimp farming technology, with a yield of 40-50 tons per hectare.

Director Nguyen Van Thao of Viet Uc Phu My Co., Ltd. Said that high-tech application is the leading priority of the unit in breeding shrimp and shrimp products. All shrimp ponds in the complex are applying the Israeli membrane production process, ensuring the requirements of sustainable structure and the highest level of mechanization.

The technological process meets the strict requirements in “strict control requirements on “greenhouse microclimate”, “greenhouse biology” and “greenhouse pest”, to adapt to climate change conditions. The Group has also invested in building a circulating water treatment system according to German and American technology, automatically controlling all environmental parameters in the pond, ensuring stable water quality for shrimp to grow without causing environmental pollution. The source of stocking breeding shrimp ensures disease safety.

“Thanks to a modern closed production and processing process, when exporting, our products do not struggle with technical barriers as well as strict standards of fastidious markets such as Europe, Japan, and the US. In 2021, Viet Uc Phu My Co., Ltd. strives to produce 3,000 tons of farmed shrimp and produce and supply about 4 billion breeding shrimps to the market. With the successful application of Biofloc technology in commercial shrimp farming, it is expected that our commercial shrimp production will continue to increase shortly,” said Nguyen Van Thao, Director of Viet Uc Phu My Co., Ltd.

For wastewater in the production, the company uses a sewage system, treated by sludge settling and treated with MBBR technology through a UV system before being released into the environment. MBBR technology is one of the latest and most advanced wastewater treatment technologies today.

For shrimp carcasses, after collecting, the company will take out them to a disposal pit in the waste area and use biological products to incubate the decomposed shrimp carcass. During the production process, fresh water is only used for green plants and cleans ponds at the end of the growing season.

“With advanced technology, we can farm breeding shrimp with the density of around 300 to 600 heads per meter square of water surface with 3-4 crops per year, yielding 40-60 tons/ha. Particularly in 2020, despite the surrounding difficulties, we have achieved positive results in both breeding and commercial shrimp farming. The output of commercial shrimp harvested in the past year reached 1,000 tons for size 50-60 shrimp/kg; at the same time, supplying the market with 3.5 billion breeding shrimps," said Thao.

New generation breeding shrimp grows 10% faster

Thao elaborated that shrimp farming yielded high productivity thanks to the good quality of the breeding. Viet Uc Group is the pioneer of its kind in Vietnam to invest and research the sources of parental shrimps.

“Viet Uc Group is currently a representative unit for Vietnam together with the US, Singapore, Thailand can actively source of parental shrimp in place. Viet Uc Group has launched a new generation of high-tech breeding shrimp VUS LEADER 21. The new generation shrimp grows 10% faster than the previous generation. In addition, the new generation breeding shrimp has stronger resistance, better adaptation, and produces more progeny, "said Thao.

The reason why the new generation of high-tech shrimp VUS LEADER 21 has these outstanding is thanks to the use of “breast milk" from the time the shrimp larvae are still in the early stages of life. This is a key factor to help improve the quality of breeding shrimp sources, vitally affecting growth rate and resistance when raising commercial shrimp in the future.

Accordingly, Viet Uc Group not only uses fresh algae and Artemia in the rearing process of shrimp-like two common feeding stocks but also invests heavily in human resources as well as modern technology and equipment specialized for in-depth study.

“We have proactively produced a completely clean source of fresh algae and Artemia, with outstanding nutritional components, to meet the comprehensive development needs of shrimp larvae. To produce an extremely superior generation of high-tech breeding shrimp larvae VUS LEADER 21, during the rearing process, Viet Uc Group increased its "feed ration", using double the amount of fresh algae and Artemia compared to previous generations of postlarvae. In particular, the farming environment needs to be stable, and be reared according to the microbiological process, without using antibiotics according to the 2-stage Biofloc process to have quality products, "said Thao.

In a meeting with Binh Dinh Provincial Party Secretary Ho Quoc Dung, the company representatives proposed the upper level to quickly complete the 1/2000 scale planning for the hi-tech agriculture project to develop shrimp with a total area of 406ha in 2021. Once the plan takes into effect, Viet Uc Phu My Co., Ltd. will promote investment in building seafood processing plants and production plants of aquaculture feed, research area, and technology transfer of shrimp farming to people.

“That businesses promote the investment in seafood processing plants, transfer of shrimp farming technology to people will make an important contribution to the development of the shrimp farming industry in the province, making Binh Dinh a center of shrimp production in the region. Moreover, it helps ensure stable output and increase income for local shrimp farmers," said Secretary of Binh Dinh Provincial Party Committee Ho Quoc Dung.
