Mr Nguyen Van Su, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Can Tho City, said: Currently, the Mekong Delta is experiencing a peak hot and dry season, but agricultural products still ensure good productivity and are less affected by pests and diseases. The significant increase in prices of these products compared to the same period last year is due to partnerships with businesses, cooperatives, and distribution channels through supermarket systems.

The price of many types of durian has increased by at least VND 3,000 - 15,000/kg compared to the same period last year and is at a very high level. The price of Mongthong durian type 1 is being sold by farmers in the Mekong Delta region to traders and fruit collection points for export at VND 160,000 - 170,000/kg, and type 2 products have a price of VND 150,000 - 155,000/kg.

Durian Ri 6 type 1 is priced at VND 110,000 - 120,000/kg, type 2 is priced at VND 100,000 - 105,000/kg, and type 3 is below VND 70,000/kg. The price increase is due to increased purchases by many retailers and businesses for export. The high price of durian is also partly because these fruits are currently in the off-season harvest. In April - June, durian farmers in Can Tho are expected to start a new harvest season with the hope of a bumper crop.

According to fruit growers, the selling prices at the orchards in March-April 2024 of many types of fruits such as Hoa Loc mangoes are priced at VND 35,000/kg, bananas are priced at VND 5,000/kg, Ido lychees are priced at VND 17,000/kg, Thanh lychees are priced at 25,000 VND/kg, green-skinned pomelos type 1 is priced from VND 20,000-30,000/kg, sugar guava is priced at VND 6,000/kg, Ruby guava is priced at VND 16,000/kg, plums are priced at VND 15,000/kg, tangerines are priced at VND 10,000/kg, Persian limes are priced at VND 19,000/kg, and dried coconuts are priced at VND 46,000/dozen.
