Mebi Group officially enters Vietnam's shrimp industry

Duong Hung Central Shrimp Joint Stock Company is a company that has invested in a top-notch shrimp seed production system in Vietnam. Therefore, the acquisition of Duong Hung Central Shrimp Joint Stock Company is considered a significant moment, marking a strong transformation of Mebi Group when it added shrimp seed production and trading to its business lines. With this event, Mebi Group has an ecosystem that includes: shrimp seed, veterinary medicine - aquaculture, nutrition, supporting products, and environmental treatment systems...

Mr Huynh Cong Tuan, Chairman of Mebi Group, shared: "Duong Hung Central Shrimp Joint Stock Company meets all the criteria that Mebi Group has been and is aiming for, which are technology, green, sustainable, circular and closed solutions.

This is a good opportunity for Mebi Group to expand its market, forming a product value chain towards exporting products abroad. Mebi Group has been operating in the veterinary medicine and aquaculture industry for over 20 years, we have experience and solutions for raising chickens, pigs, ducks, cows and buffaloes.

The product line for shrimp has been perfected for many years now and now with the acquisition of the shrimp seed farm, we will join hands with partners and shrimp farmers to participate in the shrimp industry value chain, gradually moving towards export.

Duong Hung Central Shrimp Joint Stock Company, with its headquarters and nearly 10-ha shrimp seed farm located in the High-Tech Industrial Park of Binh Nam Commune, Thach Binh District, Quang Nam Province.

The shrimp seed farm enjoys favourable natural conditions for shrimp seed production. Clean seawater, stable salinity, and convenient transportation make it ideal, and the location itself is designated by Quang Nam Province as a future high-tech shrimp seed farming development area. Currently, the farm boasts three broodstock systems capable of producing 1,800 broodstock pairs annually. Additionally, it houses three post-larval shrimp production systems equipped with 384 rearing ponds. An experimental system dedicated to algae cultivation, Artemia production, and related production support areas further round out their impressive facilities.

Duong Hung Central Shrimp Joint Stock Company took a significant step in 2023 by achieving the export of shrimp seeds to international markets. This accomplishment not only marks a turning point in the recognition of Vietnamese shrimp seed quality but also signifies a new chapter for the development of Vietnam's shrimp seed market, integrating its products with the international stage.

Following the acquisition, Mebi Group immediately took action. They imported broodstock from Florida (USA) to begin shrimp seed production and initiated production and business activities to supply the market with their high-quality product.

The first post-larval shrimp are anticipated to be available by mid-June. Looking ahead, adjustments will continue over the next six months to restructure Duong Hung Central Shrimp Joint Stock Company, ensuring stable operations and solidifying the Mebi One shrimp seed brand. By combining the expertise of Duong Hung Central Shrimp Joint Stock Company with Mebi Group's established presence in the industry, this strategic move promises to solidify Mebi Group's position as a leader in the Vietnamese shrimp seed market.

Mr Le Van Quang, chairman of the board of directors of Minh Phu Seafood Group - the largest seafood corporation in Vietnam - also admitted that Vietnamese shrimp exports to the EU have bright spots.

According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), in the first 4 months of this year, shrimp export turnover reached $ 974 million, up 10% over the same period.

In April this year, shrimp exports to the US and China only increased slightly; Exports to the EU market, after 2 months of deep decline, recovered to growth in April. The EU is the main market and recorded the best growth in April of this year.

Specifically, in the first 4 months of this year, Vietnamese shrimp exports to the US reached $ 168 million, up 5% over the same period; to the Chinese market increased by 1.7%, reaching $ 64 million; to the EU reached $ 38 million, up 28% over the same period.

Export value to the main single markets in the EU grew by double digits. Exports to Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium increased by 29%, 37%, and 39%, respectively, and exports to Denmark increased sharply by 88%.
