Export winter crops is a success for the people

(VAN) To increase the value of winter crops, Hai Duong province recommends that people produce according to safe processes, VietGAP, and GlobalGAP, while applying integrated measures to prevent harmful organisms.

"Cam Van commune and Duc Chinh commune are very blessed by nature. Located along the banks of the Thai Binh River, this place has rich alluvial soil built up every year, making it very suitable for growing crops.

Thanks to the suitable soil, winter crops, especially carrots, grow very well, are of high quality, and are well received by consumers," said Mr. Nguyen Duc Menh, General Director of Tan Huong Food Agricultural Processing Joint Stock Company.

According to Mr. Menh, for decades, people in Cam Van commune have had the habit of growing carrots and, at the same time, purchasing equipment and seeds, ensuring convenient planting to maintain productivity and product quality.

Carrots in Cam Van have joined many linked chains, including Tan Huong company's supply and distribution system. Through the actual consumption situation, Mr. Menh found that both domestic and foreign markets favor carrot products.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hai Duong province said that 90% of carrots produced are for export. Sharing this issue, Mr. Nguyen Nhu Cuong, Director of the Department of Crop Production, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, acknowledged that the orientation for localities to produce winter crops according to the market is correct.

"We need orientations and links with distribution and processing units to serve export. For example, carrots or some cold-loving vegetables like cabbage," Mr. Cuong said.

Director Cuong said localities must proactively evaluate and review any market problems to achieve this. In addition, compliance with food hygiene and safety issues, as required by importers, must be ensured.

Along with export work, production activities serving domestic needs also need attention. Leaders of the Department of Crop Production recommended that localities adjust appropriate seed structures to ensure the amount of green vegetables serving the domestic market of 100 million people.

The early winter crop group was harvested in November and will have a large harvest this December. To increase the value of winter crops, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hai Duong province recommends that people produce according to safe processes, VietGAP and GlobalGAP, and apply integrated measures to prevent harmful organisms.

When it is necessary to use pesticides to prevent harmful organisms, at the same time, adhere to the selection of biological drugs, herbs, and drugs with short quarantine periods and comply with the 4 right principles.

From the perspective of processing and export businesses, Mr. Nguyen Duc Menh wants people to have more experience in farming. All levels and branches focus on guiding and encouraging farmers to learn from each other to ensure standards such as VietGAP so that when exported, there are no residues of pesticides.

"If winter vegetable products, including carrots, can be exported, it is considered a victory for the farmer and proves that the products have good quality and good farming process," Mr. Menh shared.

The quality of carrots in Cam Van commune can be considered the best in Hai Duong province and the whole country. Familiar partners like Korea are very interested because the quality of carrots here is unmatched anywhere else.

Mr. Menh commented that if farmers want to increase value, they must export the right to foreign countries from sowing seeds. To do so, there is no other way for farmers to learn and follow technical procedures themselves. Enterprises must focus and invest from the moment the seeds are planted in the ground, ensuring they meet standards and regulations.

In recent years, Hai Duong has devoted many mechanisms and policies to promote production and increase the value of winter crop production. This includes training, education, and support for farmers, especially in fertilization, technical advice on packaging and labels, and regulations on pesticide residues.

In the spirit of Decree 57/2018/ND-CP encouraging businesses to invest and Decree 98/2018/ND-CP encouraging the development of cooperation and association in the production and consumption of agricultural products of the Government, Hai Duong has promoted support for high-quality products.

The province also proposes mechanisms to support linkages and promote agricultural product consumption through field conferences and harvest festivals... to invite organizations, individuals, and businesses to invest in agriculture.

Several projects, such as supporting the application of new technology in production, such as using drones to spray pesticides or focusing on organic production of goods, are promoted by Hai Duong province. Additionally, 13 categories are supported when participating in agricultural production links. Specifically, the Provincial People's Committee will support VND 5 million/hectare for people accumulating land or VND 500,000/m2 for greenhouses.
