Sustainable Food Forum 2023 was held on October 12 in Ho Chi Minh City by Sustainable Food Development Network – Foodshare and Association for Food Transparency with the goal of achieving a sustainable transformation in food and implementing the National Action Plan for "Transforming the food system into transparency, responsibility, and sustainability in Vietnam." This is also an important activity within the context of a succession of events commemorating the 43rd World Food Day (16 October 1979 – 16 October 2023).
The event was conducted in a new manner to analyze and evaluate in depth the current global food system's development trend, as well as to elucidate the opportunities and challenges associated with food production, distribution, and consumption in each locality and region. It is also a conduit for businesses and organizations operating in the agricultural sector in Vietnam to seize the chance to communicate and collaborate in an effort to create a safe and sustainable agricultural and food industry.
The event included presentations and in-depth discussions on "Opportunities to transform the Global Food System" and "Challenges of implementing sustainable goals in food production and consumption" by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Center for Environmental Protection and Climate Change Response (CEPVN), and other units, organizations, and companies.
Ms. Le Nhat Thuy, Senior Deputy General Director of C.P. Vietnam Livestock Joint Stock Company, delivered a speech titled "Sustainable food for a sustainable future" regarding the food situation in Vietnam and around the world, as well as the efforts that businesses are making to contribute to preventing food waste and loss and developing a sustainable food production agriculture.
Ms. Le Nhat Thuy stated, "The need for C.P Group's sustainable development stems from the philosophy of three benefits: benefits for the country, benefits for the people, and benefits for the company." Consequently, economic development objectives must always go hand-in-hand with sustainable development objectives with the three primary pillars of "Food security, Natural Balance, and Self-sufficient society" and simultaneously strive to achieve "no more hunger, no more wasted food."
In addition, the company has set a goal of reducing emissions by 2050, implementing the Net Zero campaign to balance the ecosystem, protect biodiversity, and transform refuse from the production process into environmentally beneficial sustainable products.
Following the 2023 Sustainable Food Forum is the Sustainable Food Development Initiatives and Efforts Recognition Ceremony (2023 Food Hero Awards). The purpose of the ceremony is to recognize and honor individuals, organizations, and enterprises for their consistent efforts in developing food values for the Vietnamese community and society.
C.P. Vietnam is recognized at the Food Hero Awards 2023 as one of the businesses and organizations that have engaged in numerous beneficial activities that have had a significant impact on assuring public health, nutrition, and food security, particularly during the height of the COVID-19 epidemic.
Mr. Sooksunt Jiumjaswanglerg - Vice Chairman of CPF Executive Council (part of C.P Group), and former General Director of C.P. Vietnam, was honored with the "Lifetime Contribution" award (Food Hero Awards 2023) for his contributions in the journey with farmers to develop the agricultural industry, improve food quality, and increase sources of nutrients from animal protein that are sufficient for Vietnamese people.
Mr. Sooksunt Jiumjaswanglerg has brought to Vietnam outstanding technological advances to develop the livestock industry in both quantity and quality, gradually altering the way millions of Vietnamese farmers think about effective farming for nearly three decades, with a heart of "C.P. Vietnam belongs to the Vietnamese people, serving the Vietnamese people."
"The younger generation must clearly understand their roles and responsibilities, have short-term and long-term goals, and always be ethical in business and demonstrate equality in their daily work, which is also one of the company's core values: "Be ethical, honest, and grateful; when we put ethical values first, we will reap great success," Mr. Sooksunt Jiumjaiswanglerg told the young generation at a recent seminar.
