Setting up Covid-19 checkpoints

In 2021, the climate is considered favorable for lychee production in Bac Giang, which is expected that productivity, output and quality will increase sharply. However, the Covid-19 epidemic is still developing very complicatedly, spreading rapidly, significantly affecting the production and consumption of this agricultural product.

Upon facing the situation the People's Committee of Bac Giang province has requested relevant functional branches and some localities with lychee to set up medical inspection checkpoints on main roads leading to concentrated production areas, including stages such as inspection, medical declaration, body temperature check, disinfecting spray of all vehicles entering and exiting the lychee growing area.

In the meantime, carry out the listing and medical examination of all lychee growing area codes, farms, cooperative groups, lychee growing cooperatives and make a list and do medical check on lychee packing and preliminary processing facilities in the area to ensure safety during the Covid-19 epidemic.

“Prepare all conditions for favorable lychee consumption, in which the conditions for lychee exportation are taken into account such as growing area code, code of packing and preliminary processing facilities, fumigation, label stamps, product packages, plant quarantine work before export. At the same time, invite businesses and traders to join, sign contracts to consume lychee products, promptly remove difficulties and obstacles in the process of production and consumption of lychee.”, stated the document of the People's Committee of Bac Giang Province.

Prepare a dossier to confirm the safe production during Covid-19

In order to prove that lychee shipments to domestic and foreign markets are safe considering the Covid-19 epidemic, the People's Committee of Bac Giang province requires that the area codes for lychee production, producers, collectors, and packing facilities, people and means of transport must be controlled to ensure the safety during the Covid-19 epidemic.

To be specific, for growing areas codes, farms, and Thieu lychee-producing households must have the district's certification of the production area meeting standards on food hygiene and safety, production according to VietGAP, GlobalGAP standards, organic production... That includes growing area codes certified to have been harvested from disease-free areas.

Packing facilities in the area are required to have a certification that the facilities ensure food hygiene and safety, lychee fruits put into preliminary processing and packaging must have a certification that the lychee is safe, sourced from planting area code possessing certificate of safe facilities during the Covid-19 epidemic.

Regarding means of transport of Thieu lychee fruit for consumption, there must be confirmation that people and vehicles have been tested for disease safety, vehicles and goods traveling from epidemic-free areas, all vehicles and goods have been disinfected according to regulations.

In 2021, the lychee area reaches more than 28,100 hectares, the output is estimated at 180,000 tons. Lychee produced according to VietGAP standards is 15,200 ha, the output is estimated at 125,000 tons; lychee meeting GlobalGAP standard is 82 ha; production area for export to the US and Australian markets... has an area of 218 hectares, with an estimated output of 1,800 tons; lychee production area exported to Japan market is 219.45 ha, the output is estimated at 1,800 tons.

In the 2020 lychee crop, despite being affected by the Covid-19 epidemic, this specialty fruit in Bac Giang is still well sold at a stable price, bringing in revenue of nearly VND 7,000 billion.
