Let’s come to the Mekong Delta with all our hearts

The conference was attended by about 300 delegates from ministries, departments, branches, 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region, domestic agencies, financial institutions, international development partners, corporations, domestic and international private enterprises, and industry associations.

With many emotions and expectations about the current and future development of the Mekong Delta, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan shared that the honest, generous, and courageous delta residents today are still continuing the path of bringing the delta to fly away.

Taking the image of rice plants in the flood season, no matter how high the water rises, rice plants continue to rise to develop, which symbolizes the energy of the delta people. Despite facing many challenges from climate change, people still stay strong.

Minister Le Minh Hoan urged international partners to come to the Mekong Delta with all their hearts to jointly vibrate with the delta people.

"Delta people are proud that more than 50 years ago, they had a large commodity production base. The process of reform in the agriculture sector has proven the vitality of the delta, overcoming very difficult times to rise up. That process sometimes comes at a cost to the environment, biodiversity, soil health, water quality, and the health of consumers and the people who create that product. Now, the question is how to reverse that story to have a different image of nature-based agriculture," the Minister expressed his feelings about nature-based agriculture in the Mekong Delta.

Why is agricultural nature-based production needed?

Through this conference, the head of the agriculture sector wishes localities and partners to think about the story of nature-based agriculture. Thereby reactivating and spreading the value of nature-based production.

With the nature of a conference to mobilize resources to promote the development of nature-based agriculture, Minister Le Minh Hoan suggested that localities need good ideas, solutions, and models, thereby attracting the attention of international friends and sponsors.

Mobilized resources, combined with the changes of each locality, farmer, and subject in nature-based agriculture, will create new value.

These models, such as rice-fish, shrimp-forest, etc., have revived a time of agricultural nature-based production in this Southern land. All 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region should join hands to make a new revolution in the fields," Minister Le Minh Hoan once again called for the cooperation of localities in the Mekong Delta region to reclaim geographical balance that is sometimes forgotten and overlooked in short-term goals.

This national conference to mobilize resources to implement agricultural nature-based solutions in the Mekong Delta is evidence of the efforts of the agriculture sector in recent times. Getting on the right trajectory, there are many international sponsors willing to support Vietnam in agricultural nature-based production.

In other words, this conference contributes to realizing the Government’s Resolution 120 on sustainable development of the Mekong Delta with adaptation to climate change.

With the nature of a conference to mobilize resources, before discussing capital and budget issues, Minister Le Minh Hoan wishes the 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta to understand the value of nature-based agriculture and why agricultural nature-based production is needed.

Thereby affirming to international friends and consumers that Vietnam not only knows the way of developing nature-based agriculture but also preserves the culture, environment, and society of the people who came to reclaim this land more than 300 years ago.

The story of mobilizing resources for agricultural nature-based production is not tangible or an economic story. There are also historical, cultural, and social values for the future.
