VNR20 rice variety paves the way for mechanization and construction of large fields

(VAN) The outstanding characteristics of the VNR20 rice variety create favorable conditions for building large-scale concentrated fields and applying mechanization to production.

Vietnam National Seed Group JSC (Vinaseed), in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hiep Hoa district (Bac Giang province), recently organized an on-site workshop to evaluate the model of linking product consumption and using rice varieties VNR20 provided by Vinaseed in the 2023 crop. The model is deployed in Noi Xuan village, Mai Trung commune (Hiep Hoa district), with a scale of 30 hectares, using two-hand and machine transplanting methods.

The workshop was attended by representatives of the Bac Giang Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hiep Hoa district, the People's Committee of Mai Trung commune, and a large number of people in the commune, neighboring communes and some commune of Tan Yen district (Bac Giang province).

Mr. Tran Van Doanh, Director of Vinaseed Ba Vi Branch (Hanoi), said that the VNR20 pure rice variety is a cold-resistant variety, has a wide range of adaptability, can be grown 2 crops a year, and has a short growing period ( Spring crop 125 - 130 days; summer crop 100 - 105 days). Average productivity ranges from 7 - 7.5 tons/ha. Intensive farming reaches 8 - 8.5 tons/ha. Plant height 95 - 100cm; Large, standing leaves; Branches are intense, concentrated, compact... The variety has good resistance to lodging, can tolerate intensive farming, and is moderately resistant to some significant pests and diseases.

In the 2023 crop season, Vinaseed has deployed many models to link product consumption using the VNR20 rice variety in Bac Giang province. In Hiep Hoa district, the models are deployed in some communes, such as Danh Thang and Mai Trung... with a total scale of more than 100 hectares. In this chain of links, Vinaseed is responsible for providing people with quality rice varieties, technical instructions for care, and purchasing all products.

Mrs. Ngo Thi Thuong (Noi Xuan village, Mai Trung commune), participating in the trial planting of 4 acres of VNR20 rice variety, could not hide her joy when her trust in this new rice variety was rewarded.

Mrs. Thuong shared that when she first heard commune and village officials popularize the implementation of the new model and variety set, she was very skeptical and hesitated whether to try planting it. Because the whole year depends on two rice crops, the family will have more difficulties if the experiment is unsuccessful. However, after receiving guidance and training from technical staff from the district, commune, and Vinaseed, she was determined to "try it once". The results were successful beyond her expectations.

Mr. Hoang Tien Hung, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hiep Hoa district, said that the total rice production area in the entire district is more than 8,000 hectares, of which the area planted with high-quality rice varieties accounts for more than 70%. Hiep Hoa is one of the districts assigned by the People's Committee of Bac Giang province to strictly protect rice production areas to build 40 concentrated rice production areas, each with an area of 35 hectares or more, in the period 2025 - 2030. Therefore, choosing rice varieties suitable for local fields, with high yield, quality, and value, is one of the prerequisites to encourage people to stick to the fields and enthusiastically produce.

In recent years, the district's agricultural sector has coordinated with Vinaseed to build many testing models of new rice varieties in many different seasons and barefoot in the area to serve as a basis for evaluating and considering inclusion in the seed structure of the locals. Through field monitoring, it has been shown that the VNR20 rice variety has high productivity and quality potential, with outstanding characteristics that are entirely suitable for large-scale production in the district.

Mr. Tran Van Tu, Deputy Director of the Bac Giang Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, assessed that the young workforce tends to move to the industrial and service sectors. Therefore, by promoting the application of mechanization in agricultural production at all stages (land preparation, planting, tending, harvesting, processing, preservation) and building large fields, centralized production Concentration will be an inevitable trend to solve the problem of agricultural labor shortage and increase production efficiency per unit area.

However, if you want to promote mechanization, sets of rice varieties must meet the requirements. Vinaseed's VNR20 rice variety, through the trial production process in Bac Giang, has shown many outstanding advantages, including plant hardness and strong tillering, which are entirely suitable for the requirements of a productive rice variety, quality, and convenience for applying mechanization to production.
