In order to honor and promote Vietnamese rice in the domestic and international markets, the Vietnam Food Association and the Department of Crop Production (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) organize the second “Vietnam Rice Contest” in 2020, held in Ho Chi Minh City on the 3rd of November.
At this contest, ST25 rice produced by Ho Quang Tri private enterprise (the First Prize in World’s Rice Contest in 2019), won the first prize in the fragrant rice category. Last year, at the first "Vietnam Rice Contest", ST25 rice placed second, while the first prize was accredited to ST24 rice.
For sticky rice, OM406 of the Mekong Delta Rice Institute won the first prize.
The second "Vietnam Rice Contest" categorizes two types of rice for the competition, including fragrant and sticky rice, produced from varieties in Vietnam, planted or sent for national testing for at least one crop.
Each contestant participates in a minimum of three rice products per category. Rice products have to reach a minimum purity of 98%, with no yellow, damaged, young or red-streaked grains.
