Vietnam partners with Nvidia to establish two AI research and data centers

(VAN) The Vietnamese government and Nvidia recently signed an agreement to establish an R&D Center and an AI Data Center to promote the application of artificial intelligence and expand job opportunities for the local workforce.

The Vietnam Research and Development Center (VRDC) and the AI Data Center will act as key platforms for Nvidia and its local partners to deploy advanced AI technologies.

The agreement is the result of over a year of collaboration between the two parties, beginning with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to Nvidia's headquarters in the United States in September 2023.

During the signing ceremony on the afternoon of December 5 in Hanoi, the Prime Minister described the one-year collaboration as a significant milestone, highlighting Jensen Huang's strong commitment to making Vietnam Nvidia's "second home."

Similarly, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung referred to the event as a "historic turning point for Vietnam," which marks a new development direction for Nvidia and positions Vietnam as a leading AI research and development hub in Asia.

"The centers will play a pivotal role in supporting AI research initiatives, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as create job opportunities for the country's talented workforce," Minister Dung said.

Minister Dung also highlighted Vietnam's advantages, including its young, dynamic, and technologically proficient workforce. He noted that the country is "emerging as an exemplary model in Southeast Asia in terms of innovation capabilities and the development and application of artificial intelligence." The government has identified AI as one of the priority fields in its national development strategy. Additionally, Vietnam is committed to creating a favorable environment for leading technology companies such as Nvidia to invest and foster long-term growth.

Notably, Nvidia offers a globally recognized technology platform. The two centers will use solutions provided by the company to help Vietnam "achieve its goals in the high-tech industry, with an emphasis on AI, and contribute to developing the entire Southeast Asia region into a hub for innovation."

At the signing ceremony, CEO Jensen Huang described this milestone as the perfect opportunity for Vietnam to begin building its AI future. According to Huang, AI is trained using data, and Vietnam's data is a national asset.

"Vietnam's artificial intelligence should be processed, built and operated domestically, with the aim of supporting the people and industries of Vietnam," he emphasized.

With the establishment of the two AI centers, the Nvidia CEO also committed to promoting the development of AI, supporting talent development, and fostering local startup projects.
