Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha received U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper at the Government Office on the afternoon of October 31. During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha acknowledged Ambassador Knapper's contributions to enhancing bilateral relations. He also highlighted the achievements both countries made after elevating their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that Vietnam considers the United States a strategically significant partner and expressed the desire to deepen and strengthen the new framework of relations with respect for each other's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political systems. He further noted that this effort will yield practical benefits for the people of both nations and contribute to reinforcing peace, stability, cooperation, and development regionally as well as globally.
Ambassador Marc Knapper expressed his gratitude and agreed with the Deputy Prime Minister's remarks. He reaffirmed the U.S's bipartisan support for advancing bilateral relations between the two countries. He also emphasized that U.S. representative offices in Vietnam will continue to coordinate closely with relevant ministries, sectors, and local governments in Vietnam to effectively implement various elements of cooperation under the Vietnam-U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
With the ongoing momentum in bilateral relations, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha proposed that both sides increase interactions, dialogues, and delegation exchanges across all channels and levels, with a focus on high-level engagements. He stressed the need to boost cooperation in economic, trade, and investment, with a particular emphasis on agro-forestry trade. Additionally, he suggested both parties to foster collaboration in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, and high-quality workforce training.
The Deputy Prime Minister also expressed hope for increased U.S. support in energy transition, green transformation, climate change response, and wildlife conservation.
Ambassador Marc Knapper reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to supporting Vietnam in achieving its development goals and agreed on the importance of strengthening cooperation in high-tech industries, clean energy, renewable energy, biodiversity conservation, and reducing ocean plastic waste.
The two leaders also discussed regional and international issues of shared interest, agreeing that relevant agencies from both countries need to coordinate closely to prepare for the 30th anniversary of Vietnam-U.S. diplomatic relations in 2025.
