Vietnam Agriculture Newspaper supports communication for Dak Lak Durian Association

By 2025, the area of ​​durian in Dak Lak will be stable at over 22,000 ha

On July 14, the Dak Lak Durian Association held a conference to connect the consumption of durian products in 2023 with cooperatives, production, and purchase enterprises in the area.

According to the Sub-Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection of Dak Lak province, the total area of ​​durian in 2022 reached nearly 22,500 hectares, accounting for 43.2% of the fruit tree area, an increase of 7,550 hectares compared to 2021, the output got about 188,000 tons, an increase of over 50,000 tons compared to 2021.

Durian is a crop with much higher economic value than other crops, providing a good source of income for durian growers, so the area and output are increasing. The durian area is not only developed for pure cultivation but also intercropped in coffee gardens and initially has formed some large-scale planting areas to serve the needs of export.

At the conference, the delegates discussed the situation of production, consumption, and development plan of durian in Dak Lak province; production, purchasing, and consumption of durian in the crop year 2023 in the southern provinces; lessons learned for Dak Lak province; sharing about production situation, experience in managing and operating cooperative activities, difficulties and suggestions; share experiences on value chain development in durian production and business of some countries.

The Dak Lak Durian Association also announced a plan to organize guidance on quality standards, traceability, and support for members of the Association of Durian Care and Cultivation Techniques.

Nguyen Hac Hien, Deputy Director of the Sub-Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection of Dak Lak province, said the locality strives for a stable durian area of ​​over 22,000 hectares by 2025, with an output of over 225 thousand tons. The locality will expand and maintain the production area according to standards and regulations, granting the code of the planting area reaching over 20% of the area.

"Locals also promote the use of new quality varieties, spread the harvest, convenient for consumption; building a system of leading orchards, durian propagation for production. Synchronously applying intensive farming techniques such as water saving, fertilizing, pest control, flower treatment, and spreading the harvest", said Hien.

Creating a common voice, orienting the development of Dak Lak durian industry

Ngo Tuong Vy, Vice Chairman of Dak Lak Durian Association, General Director of Chanh Thu Import-Export Company Limited, said that each farmer and business should be responsible for durian fruit when sold to the market.

According to Vy, Dak Lak authorities must pioneer quality management and build a quality customer feedback channel. In particular, the Dak Lak Durian Association needs to propose policies to support and create conditions for businesses to feel secure to invest and need to change the mindset of farmers to produce sustainably and build trust to go together quickly, creating long-term value for agricultural products.

Speaking at the conference, Vu Duc Con, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chairman of the Dak Lak Durian Association, said that the Association is proposing the Provincial People’s Committee submit to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to establish a plant quarantine locally station to export durian from Dak Lak to the Chinese market directly.

The conference received opinions and discuss to create orientations for the development of Dak Lak durian industry. In the upcoming time, the Association will continue to have solutions to support, connect and make an agreement for durian enterprises and cooperatives.

“In the context of preparing for the primary autumn season of Dak Lak and trading activities are fascinating, the Conference will listen to businesses share lessons learned, disseminate guidelines, policies, and promotional information reports of local authorities sent to units participating in the industry.

In the upcoming time, the Association will form resolutions to promulgate; supporting enterprises, business cooperatives, and durian production in the province to connect, create a common voice, and orient the development of the Dak Lak durian industry,” said Con.

At the conference, the Dak Lak Durian Association signed a memorandum of understanding with agencies, businesses, the Institute of Agricultural Economic Development; Autoagri Software Technology Joint Stock Company; Autoagri Software Technology Joint Stock Company; The Durian Association launched the Association’s Portal at: hiephoisauriengdaklak.org.vn to connect members of the Association as well as exchange official information.

In particular, the Dak Lak Durian Association signed a communication cooperation agreement with Vietnam Agriculture Newspaper. Accordingly, Vietnam Agriculture Newspaper will support communication in propagating the Association’s activities to develop members, propaganda on the management and orientation of the durian industry in Dak Lak, helping the association develop an annual communication plan… The signing aims to contribute to propaganda and direction to help the Dak Lak durian industry and the country, in general, develop sustainably.
