In recent years, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Thai Nguyen province has promoted the application of technology and technical advances, as well as the establishment of value chains in livestock production, resulting in the gradual replacement of small-scale household farming with concentrated, farm-scale models of livestock production.
Over the years, the total livestock population and production output in Thai Nguyen have experienced consistent growth. At present, the province is home to approximately 95,000 buffaloes and cows, 610,000 hogs, and approximately 16 million poultry. According to estimates, the total live meatoutput in the first nine months of 2024 is expected to surpass 170,000 tons, and the prices of livestock products are increasing.
Mr. Vu Duc Hao, Deputy Director of the Department, disclosed that the province has reviewed and identified pork, chicken meat, and eggs as priority local products for development investment during the seminar "Introducing New Technical Advances in Poultry Farming," which was conducted on October 11 by the National Agricultural Extension Center in partnership with the Thai Nguyen Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. The objective of this endeavor is to improve the quality of products and productivity, thereby generating economic benefits for producers.
Nevertheless, Thai Nguyen's livestock production is currently confronted with a number of obstacles and challenges. "These include the high costs of feed, supplies, and veterinary medicines, as well as the risk of the re-emergence of dangerous infectious diseases among livestock and poultry," stated Mr. Vu Duc Hao. He underscored the seminar's practical and substantial utility in confronting these local obstacles.

The seminar provides a platform for managers, scientists, businesses, technical staff, agricultural extension collaborators, farm owners, and local livestock producers to access and share information and experiences on the transfer of technical progress and new technologies, particularly in poultry farming. It also provides an opportunity for the discussion and resolution of challenges in the livestock sector, with a particular emphasis on poultry husbandry.
"This is also an opportunity for Thai Nguyen to showcase the potential and advantages of the livestock sector and share valuable experiences in poultry farming with other provinces in the region," emphasized Vu Duc Hao.
During the seminar, managers and scientists engaged in discussions with producers regarding the implementation of new technological innovations in poultry farming. In order to expedite the transmission of technical advancements in livestock production, they assessed the outcomes of implementing new technologies in a variety of locations and exchanged solutions.
Mr. Le Minh Linh said that through the workshop, people will have access to the 18M1 hybrid chicken breed with good growth and development ability, stable quality, delicious meat, and good adaptation to many ecological regions. Photo: Pham Hieu.
Mr. Le Minh Linh, Deputy Director of the National Agricultural Extension Center, has stated that the new technical advancements introduced include a variety of new breeds, such as the Egyptian chicken, Egyptian chicken, TP chicken, LV chicken, and Mia chicken. The hybrid 18M1 chicken, in particular, is known for its adaptability to different ecological zones, stable quality, and delicious meat.
Furthermore, improvements are concentrated on the production of animal fodder and the development of multi-strain probiotic powder for livestock.
"Farmers will also have the opportunity to learn about technical advancements in environmental pollution treatment in livestock farming, such as effective microbial products for bedding and livestock environment treatment," according to Le Minh Linh. These developments encompass biosecurity farming methods, multi-batch, multi-breed egg incubation, parent poultry upbringing, and artificial insemination for purebred and hybrid chicken production.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will receive a report from the National Agricultural Extension Center, which will propose specific policies to improve scientific research and the transmission of new technical advancements into production. The report will be compiled from the feedback received at the seminar. The National Agricultural Extension Center's leadership also requested that provincial agricultural extension centers continue to provide local authorities with specific solutions to promote new technical advancements in agriculture, in accordance with the potential and advantages of each locality.

In addition, businesses, organizations, and associations should leverage the seminar's information to propose orders for technology transfer in poultry farming. They should collaborate with farmers, cooperatives, and the agricultural extension system to supply and invest in equipment and demonstration models.
"Cooperatives, collaborative groups, service groups, and producers should organize production effectively using the seminar’s information and outcomes, proposing specific plans to maximize available resources in adopting new technical advancements," pointed out Le Minh Linh.
"The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and related units will gradually resolve challenges in promoting scientific research and new technical advancements in livestock production, particularly poultry farming, as a result of the insights shared by managers, scientists, and experts." Mr. Le Minh Linh concluded, "This will establish the course for future scientific and technological research, thereby more effectively satisfying the practical requirements of production."
