On October 11, during a patrol and inspection of the forest in area 10 of sub-zone 697, the Tam Hop Forest Protection Station under the Tuong Duong Forest Protection Management Board (Nghe An) discovered a rare male mountain goat with its left front leg caught in a wire trap.
After removing the trap, the forest protection team discovered that the muntjac had scratches on its leg from the tight wire. To minimize the risk of infection, the team used medical alcohol to treat the wound. Once the situation was stable, they released the animal back into its natural habitat.
The rare mountain goat, scientifically named Naemorhedus milneedwardsii, is a species belonging to the bovine family and the even-toed ungulate order. It is endemic to Southeast Asia, primarily found in the Indochinese Peninsula, including countries such as Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar.
This mountain goat is classified as Group IB according to Decree 06 on the management of endangered, precious, and rare forest plants and animals, and the implementation of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
