Syngenta Vietnam officially launched the Syn8 three-line hybrid rice variety to farmers in the northern provinces of Vietnam on May 4.
The event, held in Nghe An province, saw the participation of Mr. Nguyen Nhu Cuong, General Director of the Department of Crop Production under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development; Ms. Vo Thi Nhung, Deputy Director of the Nghe An province's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development; exemplary farmers; over 300 agricultural input distributors and cooperatives from provinces in the North Central Coast.
Vietnam has achieved notable results in terms of rice production over the years, contributing significantly to national food security and enhancing the country's standing on the global stage.
The production of a successful crop requires a multifaceted approach, which involves the active participation of large-scale businesses. Furthermore, this approach encourages farmers to gradually adapt their mindset, practices, and embrace scientific methods.
"Recognizing these requirements, Syngenta - a leading Vietnamese business in agrochemicals and seeds - has actively explored and researched to deliver products with the highest quality, meeting the expectations of farmers nationwide. This new generation of Syn8 three-line hybrid rice variety features multiple advantages that embody our vision and ambition," emphasized General Director Nguyen Nhu Cuong.
Nghe An province's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, local governments, and other partners have praised and acknowledged Syngenta's significant contribution to the advancement of the Vietnam's seed production industry, as well as the agricultural sector as a whole.
The Syn8 three-line hybrid rice variety, introduced by Syngenta Vietnam for trial production in 2020, has undergone extensive testing and evaluation to emerge as a superior rice variety renowned for its exceptional attributes. It exhibits remarkable cold tolerance, concentrated tillering, rapid growth, lodging resistance, resilience against prevalent diseases such as blast, bacterial leaf blight, and minimal susceptibility to pests. Additionally, the Syn8 rice variety yields plump, delicious grains with a sticky texture.
With a growth cycle ranging from 121 to 136 days in the spring crop and 106 to 109 days in the autumn crop, Syn8 thrives in the soil and climate conditions of Northern Vietnam. Notably, the rice variety delivers high and stable yields at a consistent rate.
After cultivating the Syn8 rice variety for two consecutive crops, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Nhan, Director of Phu Hau Agricultural Cooperative in Dien Tan Commune, Dien Chau District, Nghe An Province, expressed complete satisfaction: "This is our second crop with the Syn8 rice variety. Throughout the crop cycle, the rice plants exhibited stable growth, robust seeds, and highly efficient tillering. A week before the harvest begins, the rice leaves are still lush green, robust, and exceptionally resistant to lodging. Additionally, the seed-setting rate is very high, with only a few malformed grains among every 200 sturdy ones. This rice variety also exhibits remarkable disease resistance, particularly against bacterial leaf blight disease and brown planthopper. We are currently conducting trial production on a 10-sao plot, with an expected yield ranging from 4.2 to 4.5 tons per sao."
Mr. Dao Xuan Tu, a farmer from Dien Nguyen Commune, Dien Chau District, shared a similar experience with the new rice variety: "After monitoring two Syn8 crops, I have noticed several superior qualities of this rice variety. It features a high germination rate, as well as resistance to the cold, severe weather conditions, and diseases. Additionally, its growth cycle is suitable for the soil of Dien Nguyen."
According to Mr. Nguyen Huy Cuong, Director of the Seed Department at Syngenta Vietnam, the achievements of the Syn8 rice variety will motivate the company to continue contributing to Vietnam's agricultural sector.
"Over the course of more than 20 years operating in the seed trading industry in Vietnam, Syngenta's products have contributed to enhancing the productivity, output, and value of Vietnamese agricultural products overall, and more importantly, the seed sector. The introduction of the Syn8 three-line hybrid rice variety encapsulates a systematic and thorough investment process in the domestic rice seed market.
We will continue to introduce new rice varieties in the near future to enrich and improve the high-quality hybrid rice seed portfolio, thereby providing farmers across the country with more reliable choices," Mr. Cuong added.
