According to the Quang Tri Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the province possesses more than 245,800 hectares of forest land, comprising more than 126,700 hectares of natural forest and 119,000 hectares of artificial forest. 95,675 hectares are used for production forest, of which approximately 81,000 hectares are used for acacia planting.

Apart from the central government's policies, Quang Tri province has released various guidelines and policies and collaborated with other international organizations to increase communication about the shift from the plantation for wood chips to giant trees with forest sustainable certification since 2010. (FSC).

As a result, Quang Tri became the first province in Vietnam to get FSC certification for sustainable forest management in companies and family models. The province now contains 22,067 hectares of FSC-certified forests.

The province, in particular, has established a chain of consumption of FSC-certified timber with CoC-certified enterprises that have committed to cover the entire output of certified timber from the Quang Tri FSC Association in general and cooperatives in particular at prices that are 15-18% higher than those for uncertified timber.

Between 2021 and 2025, the total area of approved artificial forest in the province will rise to between 26,050 and 28,550 ha, reaching 30,000 ha by 2030.

According to the current scenario, the Quang Tri Department of Agriculture and Rural Development requested that MARD adopt policies to promote and expand FSC-certified artificial forests in order to complete the project of establishing certified plantation wood material regions. Assistance with the purchase of FSC-certified plantation insurance

According to Ms. Nguyen Hong Phuong, Deputy Director of the Quang Tri Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Quang Tri province requires the attention and assistance of all ministries and branches, particularly MARD, in order to realize the aim of growing vast wood forests.

"MARD must develop policies that are sufficiently strong to encourage and develop FSC-certified plantations in order to effectively implement the Scheme for developing sustainable-certified plantation timber material areas as well as the Strategy for developing Vietnam's forestry in the period of 2021– 2030.

Simultaneously, a policy of exemption from land use and natural resource taxes, initial financial support with preferential tax rates for individuals, businesses, and cooperatives planting material forests, particularly large timber forests with an FSC certificate, should be implemented ", Ms. Phuong suggested.

While supervising several FSC-certified afforestation models in Quang Tri, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam expressed his admiration for the province's effort and decisive action in constructing a big wood plantation model with forest management certifications. lasting.

To carry out the project of developing a sustainable certified plantation wood material area in the Central region for processing and export between 2021 and 2025, MARD is committed to assisting the local community in establishing infrastructure for production areas; training human resources, management, and hybrid acacia tissue culture... to enable cooperatives to organize production in accordance with the scheme's planning.

Simultaneously, developing a pilot model of assistance for the purchase of insurance for big wood plantations, particularly FSC-certified plantations, in order to mitigate risks and ensure the security of cooperatives and forest farmers' investments. afforestation backed by a long-term commercial license. According to the Scheme on Development of Large Timber Plantations in Quang Tri Province by 2025, with a view to 2030, the province as a whole is expected to develop a large timber business area of 16,700 hectares by 2025; contribute to increasing forest growers' economic efficiency; and supply raw materials for the export woodworking industry.
