An adult male moon bear, weighing about 168kg, was named Anh Trang (Moonlight) by the Animals Asia Foundation because of its beautifully moon-shaped chest mark. The name was also based on the species name - moon bear.
According to the Hanoi Forest Protection Department, through many times of propaganda and advocacy by the authorities, the bear owner's family has agreed to hand over the bear voluntarily. They wanted to bring the bear to the Vietnam Bear Rescue Center in Tam Dao National Park, Vinh Phuc province for its caring and development.
Immediately after the family’s agreement, the Dan Phuong Forest Protection Office and the Animals Asia Foundation accompanied the bear to the Vietnam Bear Rescue Center.
During the initial health check, veterinarian Shaun Thomson - Vietnam Bear Center said: "This is a bear in pretty good health, except for some dental problems that we have handled. In addition, the bear will also need to undergo blood pressure treatment soon."
Anh Trang is the third moon bear individual to be rescued by the Animals Asia Foundation and Hanoi Forest Protection Department in Phung Thuong commune.
From the start of the campaign #NoBearLeftBehind – Leave no bears behind, within three weeks, Animals Asia Foundation has rescued and brought five bears from Hanoi, Dien Bien, and Son La to Vietnam Bear Rescue Center.
