Vietnam Airlines and MoMo jointly initiated the "Contribute Leaves to the Forest - For a Green and Sustainable Vietnam" campaign, which includes this event. PanNature serves as the implementing partner. The parties concerned have pledged to plant a total of 30,000 trees in order to restore 50 hectares of the natural forest corridor that connects Mai Chau (Hoa Binh) and Van Ho (Son La) by 2024.
On October 5, approximately 200 members of the local community participated in the sowing of over 12,000 native trees, including parashorea, magnolia fordiana, cinnamomum balansae, chickrassy, parapentace tonkinensis, and cinnamomum bejolghota, which collectively occupied over 20 hectares. In particular, approximately 160 residents of Pa Cop and Hua Tat in Van Ho planted 8,350 trees across nearly 15 hectares, while approximately 40 residents of Pa Co planted 3,170 trees across more than 5 hectares.
Van Ho District's Song Khua, Suoi Bang, Chieng Yen, and Chieng Xuan communes will be the sites of an additional 5,000 tree plantings next week. World Environment Day, June 5, 2024, marked the official commencement of the event. To restore 27 hectares of forest in the Hang Kia - Pa Co Nature Reserve and Van Ho, Son La, it raised enough funds over the course of nearly three months to plant 18,000 trees on August 20, 2024. With the completion of this second reforestation phase, the program has successfully planted over 30,000 trees for 2024, thereby concluding this year's planting season.
"This is the third consecutive year and the second time in 2024 that the Van Ho People's Committee has partnered with PanNature to conduct forest restoration in the area," stated Mr. Dang Phi Hung, Chairman of the Van Ho People's Committee.
This activity is of particular importance, as it contributes to the reforestation of desolate regions and the restoration of the local natural landscape and biodiversity. The authorities and residents of Van Ho are working together to restore the green cover to the entire province of Son La and Van Ho by "mending" barren forest regions.
In addition to fostering community connections and demonstrating the responsibilities of local citizens, these restoration events also increase awareness of the significance of planting, preserving, and protecting forests for future generations. Mr. Trinh Le Nguyen, Director of the Center for People and Nature (PanNature), expressed his appreciation for the significant and profound contributions of Vietnam Airlines and MoMo to the restoration of forest ecosystems in the Northwest. We aspire to the ongoing, enduring involvement of Vietnamese enterprises in the restoration and conservation of natural values and biodiversity in collaboration with PanNature, local authorities, and communities.
"Contribute Leaves to The Forest - For a Green and Sustainable Vietnam" is a significant civic initiative. Vietnam Airlines customers who purchase tickets directly on MoMo or make payments via MoMo can easily "do good" by "contributing leaves" to forest restoration efforts in simply and expediently.
Forest restoration not only enhances local livelihoods but also safeguards water resources, improves air quality, increases carbon absorption, and assists the Earth in achieving its Net Zero goal by 2050.
The "Greening the Forests" program is a long-term reforestation initiative that PanNature has initiated. The program's objective is to restore 500 hectares of natural forest that connects Mai Chau District (Hoa Binh) and Van Ho District (Son La) over a 10-year period, from 2022.
