The Quang Tri Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in collaboration with the Northern Central Agricultural Science and Technology Institute and Greencarbon Japan Vietnam Co., Ltd., recently organized the conference "Creating carbon credits in rice production" and signed a memorandum of understanding to pilot the Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Project in agriculture in Quang Tri province.
The conference holds significant importance in raising awareness among authorities and the public about implementing greenhouse gas emission reduction solutions in rice production. It also opens new pathways to increase farmers' incomes by creating carbon credits through rice production.
At the conference, experts and scientists shared solutions to enhance awareness in agricultural production, particularly in rice cultivation, to improve economic efficiency, save water, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and adapt to climate change in Quang Tri province.
The Quang Tri Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Northern Central Agricultural Science and Technology Institute, and Green Carbon Japan Vietnam Co., Ltd. signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in developing and piloting the "Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction in Agriculture Project" in Quang Tri province by 2025.
The project aims to improve rice cultivation efficiency, conserve water, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and adapt to climate change, with the goal of registering carbon credits under the Gold Standard and JCM (Joint Crediting Mechanism). It also seeks to promote sustainable rice farming, enhance the economic value of low-emission rice associated with brand development, and ultimately increase income for rice farmers.
