As part of the propaganda campaign “Awareness-raising to change attitude toward ocean plastic wastes among fishermen and aquaculture farmers” sponsored by WWF- Vietnam, Vietnamese Agricultural News in collaboration with Vietnam Directorate of Fisheries and WWF-Vietnam have released Xin hãy lắng nghe" (“Please listen”), a composition based on a Vietnamese folk tune.
The song ưbased on Vietnamese folk music is performed by singer Hoang Van Tung. With the message of reducing plastic waste the song “Please listen” has blew a second wind and spread positivity to the public.
With catchy tune and upbeat tempo, the song motivates people to follow the 4R principle : Refuse – Reduce- Reuse- Recycle.
Refuse - Refuse use of plastic whenever/where-ever possible. We can refuse to use plastic bags even when offered.
Reduce – We can reduce use of plastic by changing our way of life in order to cut down on unnecessary demands. Before we go shopping we should think “Do I really need that item?”. Reduce use of single-use plastic products whenever/where-ever possible. We should prioritize the products with eco-friendly packaging alternatives.
Reuse – We can use plastic material again for the same purpose at the same place. For used plastic items that can be reused such as bottles, boxes, shopping plastic bags we can clean and keep them for use next time or for other purposes.
Recycle – A way by which plastic is recycled is by creating new function for used items . For examples we can turn a water bottle or a broken plastic pot into a flower pot. We can sort garbage in our everyday life into recyclables, food wastes and other wastes. We should make a habit of trash collection after a picnic or sea tour to improve garbage collection and recycling system.
Like the lyrics of the song “Please listen”, the 4R principle should be brought into in our daily routines for the benefits of ourselves, our families and our environment. People in all ages can contribute to the journey of cleaning oceans and greening the Earth whenever/where-ever possible.
Reducing plastic waste is an urgent task each individual should do right now– for keeping ourselves and our loved ones healthy and for fresh environment. It depends on our actions!
