On August 10, 2023, C.P Vietnam, together with Nichirei Fresh Inc., launched a project to plant trees for biological water treatment in the commercial shrimp farming area of C.P Bac Lieu, Vinh Moi hamlet, Vinh Thinh commune, Hoa Binh district, Bac Lieu province.
The project aims at greening shrimp ponds, limiting saltwater intrusion, blocking tropical storms, contributing to climate regulation, soil salinity regulation, and creating shelter and food for aquatic species to improve the marine environment, protect the environment, and contribute to the campaign to reduce the impact of climate change. As the saying goes, "When the world is facing climate change, trees play a critical role".
The project's first phase includes planting 800 mangrove trees in the commercial shrimp farm area. In the subsequent stages, more efforts will be made to restore and protect biodiversity and work towards more sustainable shrimp production and consumption.
According to business representatives, the project aims to green shrimp ponds, limit saltwater intrusion, block tropical storms, and contribute to climate and soil salinity regulation. Thereby creating shelter and food for aquatic species, improving the marine environment, protecting the environment, and contributing to the campaign to reduce the impact of climate change.
Contributing to the implementation of the "Project on planting one billion trees of the Prime Minister", and "Target to plant 20 million trees" of C.P. Group, C.P Vietnam has set a goal of planting and taking care of 1.5 million trees inside and outside enterprises until 2025 through the project "C.P Vietnam - Journey for Green Vietnam". Businesses have cooperated with many stakeholders during the implementation process to spread this activity.
Also, the enterprise carried out many activities towards environmental protection, for example, stopping the use of coal from 2021 to replace it with biomass fuel, promoting clean energy, and installing solar power at farms and factories. C.P Vietnam also applies a Sustainable Packaging policy, with a goal that by 2030, 100% of the company's plastic food packaging can be reused, recycled, or compostable, and discarded problematic and unnecessary packaging.
Nichirei Fresh Inc. is a Japanese company that imports seafood from foreign countries that is famous worldwide. This project is also part of Nichirei's sustainability policy of adhering to the "circular economy" principle throughout the supply chain while meeting C.P Group's core value practice goal relating three sustainability benefits towards achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.
Nichirei Fresh Inc. started the tree planting project in 2006 in Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam. By 2021 has planted 380,000 trees, and the plan is to plant about 350,000 more mangrove trees by 2030.
