Message to the 4th Global Conference on Sustainable Food Systems Program
(VAN) Politicians, delegates and speakers sent messages to the 4th Global Conference on Sustainable Food Systems Program.
Le Minh Hoan, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development: Vietnam has committed and is making efforts to build a transparent, responsible, and sustainable food system. We share ONE PLANET - ONE HEALTH - ONE FOOD SYSTEM - ONE PROSPERITY. Let's change together to bring prosperity, justice, happiness, and sustainability to our green planet.
Jamie Morrison, Senior Advisor, Policy and External Relations, GAIN : The right policies to foster stakeholder coordination are the critical first step towards transforming the food systems we need. The SFS conference will provide an excellent opportunity to determine how to increase support for countries taking this step.
Ambassador Gabriel Ferrero, The Chairperson of the UN Committee on World Food Security: We live in an unprecedented food security crisis. Those hardest hit by this crisis have no time for delays in coordination. Future generations also count on transforming the food system to ensure their human rights, including enough food, decent livelihoods, and a healthy planet.
David Cooper, Acting Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity: Nothing is more important for the future of biodiversity than how we manage the food system.
Nguyen Do Anh Tuan, Director of the Department of International Cooperation, MARD : Financial support, technology and capacity building for developing countries are critical to the transition to sustainable food systems food and climate change adaptation. Vietnam is poised to become a food innovation hub in Southeast Asia and will actively support innovation for inclusive, digital, and green transformation in the food and agriculture systems.
Corinna Hawkes, Director of Food Systems and Food Safety Division (ESF) - FAO: We must put people at the center of food system transformation. Facilitating the broad participation of all is critical to our success.
Christine Campeau, Global Advocacy Director – Food Systems - CARE: With CARE, ensuring communities at the national and local levels understand their rights and give them the tools to assign accountability for authorities or request services is an effective strategy to strengthen the system.
Nadine Gbossa, Director for Food Systems Coordination - IFAD : Investing in smallholder farmers and primary agriculture is at the heart of food system transformation. Farmers operate more than 80% of the 570 million farms globally with less than 2 hectares of cultivated area. In developing countries, most of them live in extreme poverty. Investing in the food system must ensure reasonable prices and a living income for smallholders and agricultural workers.
Mansi Shah, Program Manager for the Future of Work Activities, Self Employed Women's Association (SEWA): Women workers in the informal sector play a vital role at all stages of the food system but hardly have any voice or presence. Organizing women workers in the informal sector and integrating them into all stages of the food system value chain will help create a more balanced and inclusive system. It will create more equitable and decent livelihood opportunities for women while promoting and strengthening local distribution, procurement, and building a nurturing economy.
Joe Phelan, World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD): How food is grown, marketed, and consumed impacts human well-being and the environment. Transition is essential to provide us all with nutritious food produced in a way that protects human rights, covers nature, and reduces emissions. WBCSD will support this transition by bringing together the private sector to scale business operations more responsibly.
Truong Tuyet Mai, Deputy Director of the Institute of Nutrition: The leaders of Vietnam are firmly committed to organizing a high-level event to create a bridge for those building links between the parties working together for the future of a sustainable food system.
Sylvia Lopez Ekra, Deputy Director, UN Food Systems Coordination Hub: The UN Food System Coordination Hub is honored to partner with the One Planet Network and welcomes all parties to the discussion.
Martin Hoppe, Head of Division Food and Nutrition Security, Global Food Policy, Fisheries, German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ): Only through innovative partnerships and policies Only by consistency will we be able to ensure the transformation of the food system that is linked to the most pressing issues of our time such as hunger, malnutrition, climate change, and biodiversity loss. This conference offers an opportunity to learn and exchange, helping to spur action.
Van Ngoc Thinh, the Country Director of WWF-Viet Nam : There are great opportunities to feed the world in ways that favor nature rather than against it. Doing things differently can prevent forests from turning into fields, keep rivers flowing, restore soil fertility, and reverse life-threatening conditions on Earth. This also ensures enough nutritious food for people now and in the future.
