Malaysia will import 700 thousand tons of Vietnamese rice this year

At the Consulting session on exporting rice products to the ASEAN market organized by the Trade Promotion Agency (Ministry of Industry and Trade), Ms. Tran Le Dung, First Secretary in charge of the Vietnam Trade Office in Malaysia, stated that, after the end of the contract to buy Vietnamese rice from 1996 to 2021, recently, the Malaysian Government has assigned Bernas Berhad Company (the exclusive company importing long-grain white rice into Malaysia) to sign a contract to purchase 700 thousand tons of Vietnamese rice in 2022. A longer-term contract may be signed in the near future.

In the first months of this year, Vietnam's rice exports to Malaysia are growing very well. In the first 3 months of 2022, Vietnam's rice imports into Malaysia reached more than 35,000 tons, up 102% in volume.

Over the first few months of this year, Vietnamese rice export to Malaysia grew strongly. In the first 3 months of 2022, Vietnamese rice imported into Malaysia reached more than 35,000 tons, up 102% in quantity.

Vietnam is currently one of the largest suppliers of imported rice for Malaysia. Malaysia's statistics show that in 2021, Vietnam's rice import into Malaysia reached $113 million, accounting for 23.1% of the country's total rice import value.
