On the afternoon of March 15, in Dong Ha City, Quang Tri province, the Mines Advisory Group Vietnam (MAG) held a ceremony to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

MAG began operating in Vietnam in 1999, expanding its activities from Quang Tri to Quang Binh and Quang Nam. Currently, MAG is implementing 5 main activities in Quang Tri and Quang Binh, including non-technical surveys; mine prevention education, mobile bomb and mine disposal; clearance of bombs and mines in former battlefields; and establishing local contact points.
Since 1999, MAG Vietnam has conducted 72 non-technical surveys to identify mine-contaminated areas. The Group found and safely disposed of 390 thousand explosive materials including bombs, bullets and mines. MAG organized over 2.5 thousand mine prevention education sessions; 8 campaigns on social networks and educated more than 1 million people on how to prevent landmines. Thanks to MAG's operations, 250km2 of land in Vietnam has been cleared of mines and bombs, ensuring safety for people to confidently build and cultivate. 1.1 million people in Quang Tri, Quang Binh and Quang Nam provinces live in mine-free areas. MAG ensures a safe environment for construction and development.
In Quang Tri, from a small-scale project with only 45 employees, MAG now has over 500 officers and employees.

With its great contributions, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of its establishment in Vietnam, MAG was honoured to be awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations. Recognizing the Group's achievements in relieving post-war bomb and mine impacts in Quang Tri in recent times, the Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee also decided to award a Certificate of Merit to MAG.
At the Celebration, Mr. Hoang Nam, Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee highly appreciated MAG's activities in the locality.
According to Mr. Nam, Quang Tri is one of many provinces and cities in the country that suffered the heavy consequences of the war with the highest density of mine concentration in the country. The consequences of the war have already been and are a huge obstacle to the province's socio-economic development.
Immediately after the war ended, Quang Tri began removing bombs and mines to bring people back for resettlement, stabilizing production and creating socio-economic development. However, due to limited resources and rudimentary tools, the province can remove only the bombs, mines and explosives scattered on topsoil in the most prioritized areas. During that period, each year Quang Tri recorded over 100 landmine victims.
Over the past 25 years, MAG has organized over 2.5 thousand mine prevention education sessions. Photo: Documents.
In 1996, the Government allowed Quang Tri - the first province in the country, to implement cooperation programs with organizations that are working in the field of relieving post-war bomb and mine consequences.
Just a few years later, the MAG organization came to Vietnam and began to cooperate with Quang Tri province. To date, MAG has become one of the main partners of Quang Tri province in efforts to relieve the consequences of landmines and bombs and the Group is also one of the important partners in Vietnam's National Mine Action Program.

Over the past 25 years, MAG has always accompanied and cooperated closely with Quang Tri province to implement many important activities, effectively supporting agricultural production, implementing infrastructure construction and contributing to socio-economic development.
Together with other organizations, MAG has made an important contribution to reducing landmine accidents in Quang Tri province and bringing clean and safe land to people in the province.
“I acknowledge the dedicated dedication of MAG's leaders and staff over the passing period and the personal leadership role of Ms Sarah Goring - National Director of MAG Vietnam and managers of MAG organization in Vietnam in implementing an effective cooperation program in Quang Tri", Mr Nam shared.
