Despite facing many difficulties and challenges, the livestock industry in Nghe An has still achieved quite impressive figures, as reflected in the estimated 5.7% growth rate of production value in 2023, exceeding the planned target. The proportion of livestock in the total agricultural sector has increased significantly, estimated at 48%.
The success of the livestock industry in Nghe An is due to its large herd of livestock and poultry, ranking among the top in the country. However, the larger the livestock population, the higher the risk of disease outbreaks, especially as household-based farming still accounts for a large proportion.
Mr Dang Van Minh, Head of the Nghe An Sub - Department of Livestock Production and Animal Health: "Nghe An is a province with great potential for livestock development, with a cattle herd of over 800,000, a pig herd of over 1 million, and a poultry flock of over 36 million. Currently, many large corporations such as Masan, TH, and Vinamilk are investing in the livestock sector, leading to the establishment of 987 farms. Despite the advantages, household farming still accounts for a high proportion, from 65-70%..."
