On August 10th, Mr Dao Xuan Thuy, Director of Chu Mom Ray National Park (Kon Tum Province), announced that the park had just received two pig-tailed macaques from the Kon Tum City Forest Protection Department. These two macaques have been handed over to the Center for Biodiversity Conservation and Ecotourism (under Chu Mom Ray National Park) for monitoring and care.
The two pig-tailed macaques, weighing 8.5 kg, were voluntarily surrendered by local residents. At the time of the handover, the health of the animals was normal.
According to Dao Xuan Thuy, after receiving the macaques, the centre will conduct health checks, monitor them, and carefully care for them. Once they are deemed fit, the macaques will be released back into the forest to preserve their valuable genes.
It is noted that these two pig-tailed macaques belong to group IIB, which is listed among endangered and rare forest animals.
