Kon Plong farmers just witnessed the launching event of PyLo Mang Den Cooperative on November 2. With the chairmanship of Kon Plong District Party Committee Secretary Dao Duy Khanh, the signing ceremony of a medicinal herbs off-take contract between Kon Plong district and PyLo Mang Den Cooperative was also conducted.
Kon Plong district has many medicinal products of high value in the field of health care such as wild raspberry, wild myrtle, tonic, and orchid... Consequently, PyLo Mang Den Cooperative was established to associate with Kon Plong farmers in preserving genetic resources and breeding. At the same time, PyLo Mang Den Cooperative also provides seeds and techniques for Kon Plong farmers to grow medicinal herbs under the forest canopy.
Chairman of PyLo Mang Den Cooperative Bui The Hien affirmed: “We are committed to purchasing harvested products for processing and supplying products to the market, helping Kon Plong farmers increase their income and stabilize their lives".
In addition, PyLo Mang Den Cooperative developed a plan to support Kon Plong farmers in developing farms growing fruit trees, herbal plants, and cold-region coffee following the design of rural tourism and eco-tourism models to serve tourists.
Faced with the situation where medicinal plants are grown in large quantities by farmers and cannot be sold at harvest time, leading to them being kept in backlog inventory, PyLo Mang Den Cooperative has agreed to off-take medicinal herbs in the Kon Long district. The contract covers Mang Den town and 8 communes of Hieu, Mang Canh, Mang But, Po E, Dak Nen, Dak Tang, Dak Ring, and Ngoc Tem.
PyLo Mang Den Cooperative commits to purchasing at two prices: floor price and market price. When the market price drops below the floor price, PyLo Mang Den Cooperative will purchase at the floor price. When the market price is higher than the floor price, PyLo Mang Den Cooperative will purchase at the market price. This commitment is clearly stated in the contract agreement signed with each farmer household.
One of the points emphasized by PyLo Mang Den Cooperative is building a team of experts to help Kon Plong farmers with planting techniques and caring and harvesting skills for medicinal herbs to achieve high quality. PyLo Mang Den Cooperative periodically donates plants such as ginseng, Magnolia hypolampra, myrtle and some other medicinal plants so that people can reduce the pressure on initial investment costs. In addition, PyLo Mang Den Cooperative also promotes propaganda and mobilizes farmers to grow medicinal herbs in a safe and sustainable way.
