In-depth Vietnam - Netherlands high-tech agricultural cooperation

(VAN) Vietnam can learn valuable experience in building high-tech agriculture from the Netherland's rise to become the world's second largest food exporter.

The Netherlands, despite having a small natural land area as well as limited agricultural land, has developed to become a country widely considered as "feeding the world".

The Dutch explore through their own experiences to discover their advantages, utilize the strengths of natural resources and the world market to constantly innovate the economic structure towards optimization and creating agricultural successes.

The story of how the Netherlands became the second largest food exporter in the world despite its smaller area compared to that of Vietnam is a clear proof that natural resources are not the biggest challenge for the agricultural sector. Instead, the sector requires strategic planning along with science and technology application to increase production.

As one of the most developed agriculture in the world, the Netherlands is also home to many agricultural businesses with a multitude of business philosophy and in-depth knowledge in the field of high-tech agriculture, including De Heus Corporation.

With over 110 years of experience since its establishment in providing advanced solutions for animal feed and animal nutrition, De Heus now owns more than 90 feed factories globally, with its product present in more than 75 countries and territories worldwide. The Corporation has been placed in the Top 15 largest animal feed manufacturers worldwide.

De Heus Corporation has been present in Vietnam since the end of 2008. The Corporation currently owns 22 feed factories and 1 premix factory, equipped with leading advanced automation technology lines; and their operations are supervised by international experts following ISO 22000 and GlobalGAP standards. After a decade of establishing and affirming its position, De Heus is now one of the largest independent feed manufacturers in the country.

High-tech agricultural development is a necessary direction to ensure high and sustainable economic efficiency, which has been clearly determined by De Heus when entering the Vietnamese market.

With this goal in mind, De Heus has cooperated with Hung Nhon Group to develop the project "DHN Dak Lak High-Tech Agricultural Park Complex" in September 2020 with a total investment capital of 66 million USD, equivalent to 1,500 billion VND. The project is planned to be implemented until 2025. This is also the current largest pig raising project in the Central Highlands.

The complex has a land use scale of 200ha in a closed chain including: Selection and production of pigs and chicken; Automatic pig slaughter plant; Organic animal feed production; Organic fertilizers and trading livestock production with high quality in Vietnam and aiming to export to other Southeast Asian countries.

The project of high-yield pig breeding farm in Dak Lak has the capacity to raise 2,500 great-grandparents and grandparents pigs. All of which are carefully selected to ensure good genetic resources. The project will create a supply of high-quality breeding pigs for the Central Highlands and Southeast regions, with a breeding capacity of 2,500 pigs, providing the market with nearly 25,000 parent and posterity pigs.

For the first time in Vietnam, the entire breeding process within the project applies high technology following international standards. The project's farm system will be operated and monitored with 4.0 technology; modern equipment for the farm, along with the pioneering development of advanced machinery and technology, will improve livestock productivity, ensure traceability, and improve the quality of clean meat, while reducing energy consumption and operating costs, bringing stability and sustainability to the farm.

In 2022, De Heus will continue to implement the long-term strategy and vision with agricultural projects of similar scale in Gia Lai and Kon Tum provinces in collaboration with Hung Nhon Group.

On May 14, 2022, the ground-breaking ceremony for the "DHN Dak Lak High-Tech Agricultural Park Complex" Project was held in Ia Le commune, Chu Puh district, Gia Lai province. The complex has a total investment capital of approximately 1,030 billion VND with a land use scale of 100 hectares.

This is the 4th DHN high-tech agricultural complex project in Vietnam funded by De Heus Corporation in collaboration with Hung Nhon Group. This is a project specializing in the production of high quality agricultural products in a closed chain including: selection and production of pig and chicken breeds; automatic pig slaughter plant; Organic animal feed production; Organic fertilizers production and livestock products trade.

The expansion and development of the chain network of high-tech agricultural complexes in Dak Lak, Lam Dong, Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Dak Nong, Tay Ninh, as well as the Southeast and Southwest regions will help the De Heus Corporation and Hung Nhon Group complete the production and supply chain of high-value closed pig production, providing Vietnamese farmers with a source of healthy, disease-free, productive pig breeds; in line with the Agricultural Economy developmental orientation applying 4.0 technology as clearly defined by the Government and Ministries.
