Handover of Japan-funded aquaculture training equipment

(VAN) On March 28, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki delivered aquaculture training equipment to the College of Fishery and Food Technology in Vietnam.

The project to deliver aquaculture training equipment, funded by the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam with a total grant of 65,573 USD, was signed and implemented in March 2024.

Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki stated that aquaculture plays a crucial role in the development of Vietnam's agricultural sector. However, in recent years, climate change has left negative impacts on the seafood production industry, causing severe instability in the livelihoods of fishermen.

The project aims to enhance the quality of training in Vietnam, and equip students with modern knowledge as well as skills to support the development of the aquaculture sector. Additionally, the project will strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between Japan and Vietnam in addition to marking a new breakthrough in bilateral cooperation.

According to Trinh Quoc Tan, Rector of the College of Fishery and Food Technology, mariculture is a key industry in Vietnam, contributing significantly to the national economy and playing a vital role in the livelihoods of coastal fishermen. However, sustainable development of the industry requires the adoption of modern technology, continuously improving training quality, and enhanced workers’ skills.

The handover of this advanced training equipment represents a significant milestone in improving the quality of teaching and practical training for students, equipping them with practical skills to become highly skilled workers. These devices will support the learning process as well as help fishermen utilize advanced techniques in realistic production scenarios, thereby increasing economic efficiency in aquaculture.

The protection of the marine environment is one of the most urgent and critical issues at present. The adoption of technology in mariculture increases production and helps preserve marine ecosystems, thereby minimizing negative environmental impacts and ensuring sustainable aquatic resources for future generations. As a result, this equipment will also provide students and fishermen with essential knowledge on environmental protection and marine ecosystem restoration.

“We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the ambassador, as well as the stakeholders who have supported us in implementing this project. We aim to effectively utilize this equipment and bring practical benefits to students, fishermen, and the community as a whole. At the same time, we hope to continue receiving cooperation and support from the Embassy of Japan in implementing advanced aquaculture projects and models, contributing to the efficient and sustainable development of marine farming,” affirmed Trinh Quoc Tan.

The College of Fishery and Food Technology was established in September 2024 through the merger of the College of Economics, Technology, and Fishery with the College of Economics and Food Technology. Both institutions, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (now the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), have accumulated over 60 years of growth and development, earning recognition and credibility within the ministry’s vocational education system and the city of Hai Phong.
