On February 6, the Phu Loc District Forest Protection Department (Hue city) handed over the Javan pangolin individual to the Organism Rescue, Conservation and Development Center (Cuc Phuong National Park) for rescue, care, and release into the natural environment.

Previously, in the early days of the Lunar New Year of 2025, Mr. Nguyen Van Quy voluntarily contacted the functional agency to hand over a Javan pangolin individual weighing 4.0 kg, slightly injured on its front leg, and discovered by him on the side of the road in the Tuan bridge area (Long Ho ward, Phu Xuan district), with the wish to release it back into the natural environment.

Javan pangolins are listed as critically endangered according to the IUCN Red Book, belonging to the IB group prescribed in the Government's Decree No. 06 dated January 22, 2019, on the management of endangered, precious, and rare forest plants and animals. Illegal pangolin trading behaviors will be prosecuted for criminal liability.

In particular, the Javan pangolin, belonging to Appendix I of the CITES International Convention, is banned from transnational trading and natural exploitation.

This is the 2nd forest animal in 2025 that people voluntarily handed over. Thus, in the past 3 years (2022-2024), 232 forest animals were handed over, of which 212 individuals belong to endangered, rare, and precious animals, and 20 individuals belong to common species.

All these forest animals, after completing the procedures in accordance with the regulations, have been released back into their natural living areas.
