The "huge" python crawled into a people's garden in Vy Da village, Hue city. Photo: KLH.
On April 2, Hue City Forest Ranger District (Thua Thien - Hue province) said that the unit had just received a rock python weighing 85kg and 5.2m long handed over by people in the area.
Previously, Mr. N.V.D. (residing in Vy Da ward, Hue city) discovered this python in his garden so he caught it and reported it to the authorities.
Because the received python was too large and long, the Hue City Forest Ranger Department had to mobilize up to 5 people along with the homeowner to put it into the cage.
According to statistics, the largest python species discovered in Vietnam so far is 8m long and weighs more than 100kg.
Currently, the Hue City Forest Ranger Department is completing the prescribed procedures to release the "huge" python back into the natural environment.
The rock python (scientific name: python molurus), is classified in group IIB (endangered and rare forest animals) and is in the Red Data Book of Vietnam's animals.
This species is currently in an endangered state with its population decreasing sharply, requiring strong protection measures to preserve and maintain this animal. The identifying characteristic of the ground python is its grey-brown, long and small head. The top of the head has a lanceolate pattern with a sharp tip extending from the neck towards the tip of the muzzle. The upper surface of the back is grey or light yellow interspersed with red spots with black borders.
