Discarded plastic bottles can be exchanged for fresh, safe carrots, old books and magazines can be exchanged for green vegetables. This activity regularly takes place at the booths which host the exchange across the city.
Mr. Tran Ngoc Tuan, in charge of the food booth said, “The booth opens from 6 am and closes at 6 pm daily. The veggies are imported directly from a trustworthy provider in Dan Phuong district to ensure food safety."
Mr. Do Ba Tu, business manager of six booths, checks the arrival of the vegetables at a booth with Mr. Tran Ngoc Tuan. According to Mr. Tu, inventory management must be meticulous, guaranteeing that when items are out of stock shipping suppliers can be contacted quickly.
Green vegetable goods range from carrots, tomatoes, vegetables, and cabbage to dried meals such as rice noodles and mineral water.
To ensure the safety and cleanliness of the food, each stand puts green veggies in separate trays for consumers to select from.
According to Mr. Tuan, the dry climate demands that the imported products be continually watered to guarantee fresh green veggies.
Prevention of the Covid-19 pandemic is a priority at each booth; purchasers must make medical declarations at the counter by scanning a QR code. Vendors and customers are separated by a plastic barrier.
Mr. Tuan is presenting safe and sanitary vegetable products that are pesticide-free, assuring consumers of their cleanliness.
Ms. Nguyen Mai Phuong (Van Mieu ward) explained: "The practice of exchanging garbage for food was initiated at a time when people were suffering several challenges as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. That is why we are so receptive to these booths. This not only increases public awareness of waste categorization but also results in increased economic efficiency."
At each booth, personnel are assigned to weigh and convert scrap according to the "price list."
The scrap weighing slip prominently displays the price of each category for comparison purposes and to guarantee a fair conversion procedure.
According to Mr. Tu, the idea of trading waste for food is quite popular; some people even eagerly bring bottles, books, and other items to the counter without taking anything. As a result, they have placed 20 booths across Hanoi; in the future, the concept will be extended to the majority of the city's districts and throughout the country's provinces, conveying relevant environmental messages to the population.
